tlynnm Posted July 14, 2006 #1 Share Posted July 14, 2006 Can you get Lira on the Splendour or in the port of Kusadasi? What about an ATM on the ship? Is there even an ATM on the ship? Help! My bank has no Lira!
Rare Keith1010 Posted July 14, 2006 #2 Share Posted July 14, 2006 Are you talking about Lira as in the old Italian currency? Lira isn't used anymore in Italy. They use Euros. Keith
Rare whogo Posted July 14, 2006 #3 Share Posted July 14, 2006 Turkish currency is not in big demand in the US. The monetary unit in Turkey is indeed the lira. Your cruise line brochures or website will have information about exchanging money on board. I don't know if ATM's are handy in Kusadasi.
Rare Keith1010 Posted July 14, 2006 #4 Share Posted July 14, 2006 Thanks for clarifying. Sorry for mistaking the posters orginal question as the former Italian currency. Keith
cusyl Posted July 14, 2006 #5 Share Posted July 14, 2006 We were just there and they accepted the Euro or dollars there and was not necessary for us to have the local currency. This info was in our ship daily news for the port.
mdeane Posted July 14, 2006 #6 Share Posted July 14, 2006 Yes, all our ships have had an ATM machine BUT be aware that there is a $5 charge each time you use it. Use the ones on shore instead. Often the ship's ATM is not working anyway. Another $$$maker for RCCL. You can get US Dollars exchanged for foreign currency at the pursers desk. ATM's are your best bet for cash and a debit card is the best exchange IMHO.
Mike073 Posted July 14, 2006 #7 Share Posted July 14, 2006 There were several ATM ashore as you leave the ship in Kusadasi. We used both dollars and New Turkish Lira the two days we were in Turkey, but really had very little need for cash except for trinkets - dollars are OK there. ATMs for cash and credit cards for purchases is the way to go, as stated above.
canadiansnowbird Posted July 14, 2006 #8 Share Posted July 14, 2006 Can you get Euro Travellers cheques cashed for Euro dollars on board the Brilliance? And if so, is there a charge? Snowbird
