Shoreguy and the rest of the Dawn cruisers

I am having a dilemma.

I am torn between the AC and AD cabins on the DAWN.

The AC ar forward cabins and the AD are Aft.

It is confusing when checking cabin size. It seems some AD are larger then the AC with smaller balconies, and some have larger balconies.

Has anyolne been in either of these categories..l would appreciate your opinions.

We did the Spirit last year and the AC was not a forward Cabin. We loved the layout and wonder if the Dawn layout is the same.

I am so confused.

Thanks,

I did think about the fact that the AC"s will open directily into the wind, but I am trying to find out if there is another advantage that I might be missing.

I am holding an AD, and I have until Saturdy to make my decision.

we had the ad cabin on the dawn 7/1 sailing it was very nice ...long walk back to cabin once you get use tothe long walk it is nice, balcony was very nice, very quiet in back of ship, no door closing etc, also was shocked with how smooth the ride was it wasnt bad at all, would we do a ad maybe we would do the owner suite next time if available we saw someone cabin, we are going on rccl freedom of the seas 10/8 sailing and we have a grand suite mid ship

Rpsinnj,

Thanks for the information. Here is a question the cabin looked dar, is it because of the deep balcony.

Does anyone know if the AC has the bathroom with windows in it like the AC on the Spirit?

Only the Garden Villas, Owner's Suites & AB Penthouses have bathrooms with windows.

The AC in my opinion is far superior - with the caveat that if you are sailing in colder months, you may be better off with the AD because obviously a bow cabin gets more wind, while aft is sheltered.

The best ACs on the dawn are the 2 middle ones on 10. The balconies are slightly smaller than the other ACs, but the room is significantly larger. And the balcony is still huge. Additionally, the balcony has a partial overhang from the bridge, giving shade and shelter - but enough of the balcony is open (not under the bridge) that you get plenty of sun.

To be avoided imo are the 2 ACs on 10 on each side - the balconies are directly under the bridge windows (not an overhang), no privacy. I think it is the cruisediva dot com site that shows these.

Also, the AC has full butler service. You'd need to check if the AD does, I can't recall.

The 2 mid AC cabins on Deck 10 are booked already. There is one on Deck 9 I am thinking of switching to that one. I wil make up my mind by Sat when my deposit is due. Hope the other cabin will still be there

The AC on deck 9 are either 314 feet cabin & 134 foot balcony or 275 cabin & 212 balcony.

The AD 10228 is 290 cabin & 123 balcony.

I have sailed in the front and the back. I see you are sailing on 12/07/06. It will be a good 2 days before the front balcony is of any use. The back is windless and can be used. The front even when you are way south is very windy while sailing. We found the back really nice sailing back from Florida when you couldn't sit on the main deck.

Just my thoughts.

Happy Sailing,

Monty

Pretty much personal preference I guess, we prefer the back (aft) of the ship and were in AD 10228 this month on the DAWN and will be back in the same cabin in Feb. on the DAWN again.

Sounds like the Aft cabin may not be a bad idea. Let me ask you since you were in the Cat D cabin. Is the bathroom roomy. We were in a AC on the Spirit and the bathroom was fabulous, windows and all. Will I be disappointed with the AD bathroom is the AC on the Dawn larger? I know it is a silly question but I would like to know.

There are no windows in either the AC or AD on the DAWN. There is a bathtub/shower combo in the AD...with the bathtub being on the narrow side. Outside of the bathroom is a vanity area with 3-4 drawers and a nice size mirror. The closet in the AD is nice it opens from both sides (the side near the vanity and the side near the entrance hallway.

I haven't personally seen the AA bathroom, but I'm guessing they are probably the same as the AD.

My favorite bathroom so far has been the AB bathrooms.....much nicer than the AA's even. :D We had an AB on the STAR and loved it, but unfortunately even booking a year in advance and the AB's were sold out for our 2/18/07 cruise on the DAWN.

Yes good friend of mine had the AB penthouse and he loved it I didnt know about the bathroom window looking out into the water , if i had a choice I would do AA owner suite 10506 or a AB midship for sure dont care what the cost is they are the best

When we were in the AC on the Spirit there was a full window in the shower with a curtain of course to pull down when necessary, the jacuzzi was also by a full window on one side and a small window on the side.

It was the best bathroom yet. I loved it. I guess I will only get windows if I bood an AB I just may switch.

With the AB on the STAR/DAWN you also get the large jacuzzi tub, with the television above it. There are windows in the shower, behind the tub and at one end of the tub (views the balcony). Shoreguy has some great photos of the AB bathroom.

I don't believe the AC's have a jacuzzi tup, I believe it's just a regular tub/shower combo like the AD's have.

AC on the Spirit and AC/AD on the Dawn have nothing in common except they are penthouses and get full butler service,

AC and AD cabins on the dawn are almost the same. Bathrooms exactly the same and similar to those in a Mini Suite. No windows, Shower/Tub combo, separate area for the commode.

The decision is location & balcony size. You will be able to use the aft balcony every day and night. The forward balcony is grand pulling into port. The aft view always outstanding.

You will walk much more with an AD and that may be good:) Check out the Deck plans. I find myself off the forward stairway about 70% of the time - Spinnakers, Topsider, Stardust, Casino, Bistro, Impressions......

All that said I have booked aft cabins for the Pearl in Dec, The Gem in 2008, had one booked last Feb for the Dawn until the upsell fairy waived the magic AB wand. Originally had an aft booked for the Dawn this coming Feb but upgraded the last AB.

If you are looking for something with a grand bath with a TV and picture window check out the AB - the only cabin that would get me out of an aft cabin except perhaps an AA or Villa

AB Bath.

I am now thinking that if I do change my AD it will be for an AB. You get mightly spoiled once you have had the extras. I loved the AC on the Spirit.

It would be nice if I knew that the Upsell Fairy would come but I do not have tha tluck

Oh well, it is only money. I think AB is where I am headed.

Ted is that you?

I loved the Spirit and was tempted to do it again. We decided to try the DAWN this time, hope it comes close to the Spirit.

Glad to hear you and Marsha are going alone without the kids. We all love our kids but it is nice to do things as a couple.

I just signed onto the Roll Call for this cruise. Hope we get as nice a group as we had on the Spirit.

I will be looking for your posts on this board.

We sailed in an AC on the Dawn 10/30 -- beautiful cabin, and loved the balcony! Once you're cruising between the islands, that balcony is fabulous!

That said, I would LOVE to sail in an aft suite, simply because of the fact that you don't get the wind you get when you're forward. HOWEVER, being forward when cruising between the islands and arriving/departing different ports really is spectacular.
