12B@C Posted July 27, 2006 #1 Share Posted July 27, 2006 We have several photo albums and I have seen a couple of beautiful scrapbooks. However, they end up on a shelf and are not appreciated enough. Sooooo! what we ended up doing is to share our experiences with our friends and relatives via the internet. I have created a web site that is as good as a scrapbook and more fun to manage. The freedom and creativity is all ours. I don't buy books, special paper and can use clip-art if I want to. The price can be virtually none to about $60 a year. McDebbie Posted August 23, 2006 #3 Share Posted August 23, 2006 What is the actual web site where you go to sign up and make these scrapbooks? I like to sit and look at them but I never seem to get them done so maybe the web site would be easier.
travelnnana Posted August 27, 2006 #4 Share Posted August 27, 2006 If the question on where you sign up for these albums is for me - I do my scrapbooks 12x12 - then scan the pages - however Im going to go digital - and then get them printed - I have some books on Yahoo http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/calcteach1/ you just go to the link - get an id - and upload your stuff the magix site is http://www.magix-photos.com/index.php?id=584 the free stuff on magix is very slow - but the upgrade is quite cheap - like $25 for 6 months and is adequate - Im trying to decide which one to keep Good luck just email me at calcteach1@yahoo.com and I'll answer any questions you have! 12B@C Posted September 2, 2006 Author #5 Share Posted September 2, 2006 I have elected to have our own web site without the advertising, etc. It is a bit more complicated and I am fortunate to have a young friend who helped me. Basicly here are the steps: 1. Select a server that will provide the service you are interested in. I used 1&1. To see details go to: http://order.1and1.com/xml/order;jsessionid=79C2F7F595F7979E14CE971EC86B164E.TC60b 2. Select the "domain" or web site name you want to use. I have an unusual last name and www.*****.com was available. You may have to do some trial and error to find one you like. The cost for having one for a year is $7. 3. Create your own web page or pages and submit them to the server. Look under "hosting" for details. This is the tricky part and I needed help. The cost for having the server in this case was less than $30 per year. So the total cost of about $37 (the cost of a nice scrapbook) gives me what I wanted. 4. Well, not quite. To do a decent job of creating web pages, I use Microsoft Front Page 2003. You can find our more about that on the web. What I like about it is that it gives me freedom to set up pages with text, graphics, photos and even sound. I can add or modify the pages whenever I want. If you are interested and are computer savvy, try it. If you need help, like I did, find a friend, like I did.
12B@C Posted September 2, 2006 Author #6 Share Posted September 2, 2006 I should have added one more suggestion to my last posting. I have used both scanned and digital photos to my web site. In both cases it is necessary to reduce the size so they will fit on the page(s). There are again several different programs available to do this as well as to crop, rotate, etc. For more details see the thread: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=395651
