keylime27 Posted July 28, 2006 #1 Share Posted July 28, 2006 I think most of us would agree that the muster drills are the worst. (I realize that they are very important and necessary, etc. etc.) Is it better to be tipsy or sober during the drill? Has anyone ever been totally tanked for it? I'll bet there are some funny stories out there.

EggDropErin Posted July 28, 2006 #3 Share Posted July 28, 2006 I don't know if they were tanked or not (my guess is, yes) but when we were on AOS, our muster mates kept complaining loudly that they had cruised Carnival several times before and that they NEVER had to do a muster with them. So, they were drunk and not having a good time at all, and we were sober and probably had a much better time watching and listening to them carry on about nonsense. CubsFan1856 Posted July 28, 2006 #4 Share Posted July 28, 2006 That is right, I am not ashamed at all. After reading numerous posts about increased alcohol awarness I decided to not smuggle any booze in my luggage. Of course as soon as we got in our cabin and got settled in, My sisters Boyfriend (who I was rooming with) breaks out a handle of Crown Royal. Well I couldn't let it just sit there so we had a few and then a few more. By the time the muster drill was set, we were pretty hamered, so much in fact we tried to take our drinks out to the muster statiosn. Of course you cant take drink out on deck during the drill so we had to pound them infront of the crew. Oh well, it was a great way to start a cruise
masonpips Posted July 28, 2006 #5 Share Posted July 28, 2006 I've been with people (actually on DCL) who brought LARGE beers with them from the bar. They were a riot to be with, although I wouldn't say they were tipsy, just fun folks who happened to have some beers in hand
Nliedel Posted July 28, 2006 #6 Share Posted July 28, 2006 Seen people drunk as skunks. Don't suggest it. They were entertaining though.
Ula Posted July 28, 2006 #7 Share Posted July 28, 2006 I like to control myself till after muster. That to me is the starting gate for total relaxation. When it ends you may as well be yelling and their off. That is the now I can exhale and relax. I have actually seen people fall asleep at muster. Truthfully since it was on another line I figured they booked their air. Made that mistake only once, we ended up being awake due to transfers over 24 hours. The ship was delayed embarking and leaving. It was all we could do to be awake for muster. That line could not find a direct flight from LAX to Newark. Gee only most every airline has one leaving every hour. We took a multi stop red eye for twice the price. That is when I taught my father how to use the internet when finding air travel. He likes to book these trips.

wingnutphl Posted July 28, 2006 #9 Share Posted July 28, 2006 I'll be honest and say that I went to a muster drill trashed. After a few of them you know what's going on. We had a few crew members escort us to the drill. I'm sure we kept everyone entertained and we got some funny pictures!

FitzLA Posted July 28, 2006 #12 Share Posted July 28, 2006 Hmmm...Don't think I have ever been sober for a muster drill. As soon as you get on the ship, they shove those drinks down your throat. I have never been one to say no. On my 1st cruise, I had security hanging over me during the muster drill, which was in the theater, cause I was blowing the whistle and complaining about how filthy the life vest was. It was a memorable experience. Now, ask me if I would know what to do in the even of a disaster. No idea!

cb at sea Posted July 28, 2006 #14 Share Posted July 28, 2006 We boarded at 11:30 am--muster wasn't until 4:30! Of course we had a drink or two prior! We're on vacation, after all! But we weren't "tanked" or even close to it! Just feeling good and relaxed! (As were most of our life-boat mates!)
fla-red Posted July 28, 2006 #15 Share Posted July 28, 2006 We are usually always feeling pretty good by muster time. On one cruise we got to be in the Schooner Bar for our muster drill. Worked out great because that is where we started in the first place.
Tybug Posted July 28, 2006 #16 Share Posted July 28, 2006 Can't say I've ever been sober to a drill! That said... never been falling down drunk either. Just having a good time! :p
FitzLA Posted July 28, 2006 #17 Share Posted July 28, 2006 Fitz you are too funny!!! :D Hey Patrick....How are you? I have a stupid question.... On Freedom, is there a charge for the juice bar...the one near the flowrider? And since we are on the topic of being tanked, can you get a shot of rum in your juice? golferkinda Posted July 28, 2006 #18 Share Posted July 28, 2006 Hey Fitz--- It's kinda like the exit row aisle in a plane. I usually sit there, but the passengers better pray that I don't have to help them in case of an emergency.

But sometimes I just stare at that big door and say, 'huh?'
GMoney Posted July 28, 2006 #20 Share Posted July 28, 2006 Hey Patrick....How are you? I have a stupid question.... On Freedom, is there a charge for the juice bar...the one near the flowrider? And since we are on the topic of being tanked, can you get a shot of rum in your juice? I'm good thanks. Hope you are too, as a fellow Friend of Henry. They do charge at the juice bar. I do not recall the prices, as they are not visibly posted and I didn't get a smoothie. It's like Jamba Juice where there's a base price and then more for the add in mixtures. The set up itself is very nice, and they seem to have a good variety of things; but I expect this to be replaced on future ships (either eliminated or turned into a bar). I never saw anyone patronize it, and the topic never comes up here. I think you'd have to go to the pool bar for the shot; I do not recall seeing any liquor behind the counter. I am pretty confident in this info, but again, I only saw the place passing by every day. Maybe others could confirm.

Ula Posted July 28, 2006 #24 Share Posted July 28, 2006 This is funny, I was travelling alone on a short flight from Vegas to Los Angeles and the return trip was booked. I kept on being asked to move. I finally ended up next to the emergency exit. The nice young man next to me asked if I would move again so his younger brother could sit next to him. I may be old and cranky but yes I would move. But the stewardess yelled no one under the age 13 can sit in these seats. The older brother was 13. I told him we can scoot around after take off for your brother, but pay attention to instructions you are the MAN. It was cute he really did. And we got little brother close after take off. Where older brother was sure he was going to save the life of everyone on the plane and told little brother about how he had to pay attention. And his duties. The moral to this story, us adults Muster is common sense. You just need to know where to go. Young people are still learning that. It is a good example to take it serious. It is good to let them know it is serious. A cruise asks us to just pay attention to one thing. A cruise is always fun. But just in case something happens, we do need to know what to do. And as adults we do set examples for the young people. And just in case I want them to know this is important. Personally we have no children, but our siblings way more than made up for that.
