luvavacation Posted August 3, 2006 #1 Share Posted August 3, 2006 I hope I am asking this in the correct forum! I have previously sailed from Port Canaveral, and always found the first night and last night back to port to be rocky, due to crossing the Gulf Stream (or so that is what we have been told it is due to). Is departure from the Tampa port smoother since you are sailing right out into the Gulf? Also, do you cruise under the large bridge in Tampa when you depart? Just curious! KreinKrunker Posted August 3, 2006 #2 Share Posted August 3, 2006 do you cruise under the large bridge in Tampa when you depart? Yes, you go under the Sunshine Skyway bridge. http://bridgepros.com/projects/Sunshineskyway/Sunshineskyway.htm
luvavacation Posted August 5, 2006 Author #3 Share Posted August 5, 2006 Thank you, KreinKrunker. We will be sure to be up top when we sail and wave to the cars not going on the cruise! :) Suppose we will just wait and see if Gulf departures are rocky or not! suncoastgirl Posted August 6, 2006 #4 Share Posted August 6, 2006 If you leave port at 4, you should sail under the Skyway around 6 pm. So, if you have early dinner either skip it and eat at the buffet or ask for late dinner seating instead. It takes about 2 hours to navigate the channel to get to the bridge. mjt2890 Posted September 8, 2006 #5 Share Posted September 8, 2006 Going under the skyway is awesome, especially on the Carnival Miracle. Only like 20' clearance, amazing it fits! One of the highlights of my cruise. Missed it as I was at dinner on departure, but saw it coming back at like 2 or 4am while I was stumbling back to my room. That was a rough day!!
