Canes?

Hello,

My hubby just started to use a cane occasionally. This will be our first international flight to Europe and then we will be doing a TA back to the States.

What advice do you have about traveling with a cane? Any issues on flights? Has anyone ever checked their cane? Placed it in the coat closet on the flight?

Any info. will be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

I wouldn't check it or put it in the closet. I would stow it in the overhead bin. You want to have it as close to you as possible should you need it. Also take advantage of the pre-baording announcement and board before the main cabin. This will allow you to take your time, not get trampled and to stow your belongings.

I travel with canes all the time. Do not check them in. Stow them in over head bin (Flight Attendents will retrieve it when you need them). As Candy has said use the early borading time to make things as easy as possible on you both. Have a great cruise/trip.

I bring a couple of folding canes with me. They fold easily and they fit nicely into the seat pocket in front of me. I really didn't like it when the flight attendant put my non-folding canes in the overhead as they were always pushed to the back of the bin by carryons and then I could never reach them when I needed it to go to the loo on the flight.

If you are using a wooden cane, don't be suprised when it goes through the metal detector and sets it off. There is usually a round metal disk between the rubber gripper and the wood of the cane itself. Don't be affraid to ask for assistance through the airports as well. You can make better time and they escort you to the right parts of the terminal. As previously posted use the preboarding, you can take your time.
