I know alcohol is a no no, but can you bring other beverages and snacks on board?

Recommended Posts

While there may be some additional revenue to RCCL by this policy, I suspect the motivation is for legal reasons due to the incidents of missing and drunk people in the the news recently. If they have a policy and you violate it, then they can claim they are not a contributing factor in some unfortunate mishap that may occur to a passenger.

I am surprised to find you are not allowed to bring wine. If you are allowed to bring wine that they do not have, does anyone know where to find their wine list. We are in the liquor industry and have brought wine on every cruise. We have never been with RCI. We have a cruise scheduled and need clarification.

This was in the email I received from RCI in February. Sorry for the messiness!

It almost sounds like getting your check-in luggage inspected is a random thing? And if it's locked, how can they get in it any way?

I'm a first-time cruiser. Going on the Rhapsody on 9/10. So, there is a mini-fridge in each cabin? And they stock it with sodas/water that you pay for if you drink? Sorry; I'm confused!

I personally like Diet Dr. Pepper, so would like to bring some of that with me, as well as water. Sounds like you can carry this on with you, in visible sight, as long as it's not opened?

What about bringing a small coffee pot and your own coffee? I heard the coffee on some of the ships isn't very good. I was hoping to just order room service for coffee and breakfast and not have to hassle with bringing all of that stuff.

Thanks for the info!

Thanks critterchick. This helps, although I really doubt their list is that extensive. I think they pu that out to say they have it all. I think if we put a couple in each bag we should be ok. Sounds like they never pull it all.

I will definately use the list.

I would pack whatever you want to bring in the luggage that you give to the porter. Lock it. They will x-ray for weapons, but snacks, drinks, and the like shouldn't pose a problem. I wouldn't put it in my carry-on, especially if a bottle of booze sneaks into your stash! They don't open your checked bags to search.

anyway they have the right to just break that lock. they have warnings in airports and in ports that they have all rights to just break that lock and search ur bag...

Actually, the wine list is many pages long, and they have a "manager's choice" or whatever they call it, so you might be surprised at the number of wines, and aghast at the markup.

I think the amount of alcohol you bring on might be an issue also. They probably wouldn't mind a normal amount (on Celebrity last November we brought on a few bottles in our bags each from the duty free shop at the pier with no problem and I've also walked on RC with a beer or two in my bag). What they might have a problem with is bringing lots of bottles on with you or being obvious with it. I don't know... just a thought...

Also, of course RC is going to respond that you can't bring alcohol with you, just like you aren't supposed to bring candy into a movie theater... but I do it all the time. As long as you won't pitch a fit if you are told you can't bring it to your room, just try it!! :D They're not going to confiscate it, just hold it until the end of the cruise and you will have to buy alcohol on the boat like if you didn't bring your own.

As for the water, I usually refill a water bottle at the gym water fountain...

Snacks... like someone else said there is no need, there is tons of food on the boat and they let you carry that off for snacks on the beach (at least I've never had a problem).

Security may inspect containers (water bottles, soda bottles, mouthwash, luggage etc.) and will dispose of containers holding alcohol. Guests who violate any alcohol policies, (over consume, provide alcohol to people under age 21, demonstrate irresponsible behavior, or attempt to conceal alcoholic items at security and or luggage check points or any other time), may be disembarked or not allowed to board, at their own expense, in accordance with our Guest Vacation Policys. Guests under the age of 21 will not have alcohol returned to them quote]

Considering some of the items they will inspect while looking for alcohol include water bottles and soda bottles, I don't think there is a problem bringing them onboard.

This has been worrying me and you just answered it using straight logic! Thanks whoop! :)

Isn't amazing how often RC gets caught in their own inconsistencies, i.e. no soda can be brought on board, but we'll be inspecting soda bottles for alcohol!! Is anyone at RC really in charge, or do they just make up policy as they go?

damomom,

This link will take you to the Main Diining room information page for Rhapsody of the Seas and at the bottom of the page there are links to the fleet wine lists (Domestic & European).

Everytime we port in KW, I always go to the KW winery and buy a few bottles to bring home. I go through security and they can plainly see these are wine bottles, but they have never, ever held them. I put the boxes on the belt, they go through the machine and the security people do not say a word. I plan on bringing a bottle of wine or two with me for our Bermuda cruise and I'm just not going to stress about it. We're not flying, so it'll go in our checked luggage. Plan on doing the same thing for our cruise in November.
