Hi,

I wondered if anyone has anything to say about their recent cruise on the Century.

There are no reviews since June on the reviews page.

I will be on her at beginning of Oct & wondered if anyone had any info on her since June.

Getting excited, but would just like to read some up to date info & how she is after refurb & settling in period.

Many thanks,

Lisa:)

I have been on over 40 plustrips and this my third on Celebrity. DId the Summit to Alaska, the Millenium to Europe and then the Century. This ship was inferior tol the other two. It was the second trip out of dry dock and the crew did not have it together. WE had to complain to the Maitre D to get the service in the dining room going. The food was just okay.. with dinners the best. I would highly recommend Murano as often as you can. It is only $30 extra for the dinner.. no other tip needed. Worth every penny in terms of service and food. Do the goat cheese souffle, the rack of lamb and the Grand Marnier dessert. The lunch buffets were gross. They offer a lot of alternates on the back of deck 11. such as custom sandwiches, wraps and salads. A good choice.

Most disappointing is that they do not have a cover for the outdoor pool nor an indoor pool . Our sea days were not great weather wise so it became scrabble time or hitting the gym. Even a yoga class is $10 extra.

The ship's new decor is lovely. The shows were very good. They are constantly trying to suck more money out of you for extras. One of our table mates who was in concierge class had a light fall out of his ceiling onto his head and all they could say was sorry and send him to the Dr. to get looked at. He was fine.. I would have been wild for sure.

If you want a quieter time,, ,this ship is fine. the activities are routine and the staff lacks spirit.

Perhaps when you go they will have it more together.

Good luck ! I would take another ship.

Hi Lisa !

I have been on Century many times. She is one of my favorite ships in Celebrity's fleet. I have not been on her since the refurbishment, but I highly recommend her. I have 2 Cruises booked on her for early next year.

As for the crew, they are fantastic. They are always trying to make the passengers as happy as possible. I know another comment was made about the crew lacking spirit, but that is probably due to the fact that they were worked very hard during the drydock. Hopefully, things are back to normal now.

Any other questions ? Feel free to ask !

I just read this one on Fodor's, so copied it for you...

This was our first ever large ship cruise, and I admit that we were a bit apprehensive. But it was wonderful. We have always wanted to see the Scandinavian capitals and especially St Petersburg, Russia. We got the opportunity this year and booked the Celebrity Century June 27, 2006 sailing for 12 days out of Amsterdam and return. Frequent flyer miles got us to Brussels from US west coast. Train to Amsterdam where we pre-extended for 3 great days. All in all, we are very happy with the result of the trip. I don’t know how, but we were upgraded from a window (guaranteed) to a veranda. Not at all hard to take.

We are primarily interested in the history and cultural background of the ports. We basically looked at the ship as a conveyance to get us to the various ports of call. A very nice conveyance at that. But to us, the ship was not the trip, as it is for some folks. (Some did not disembark, even at St Petersburg. That amazed us.) To each his own, just trying to give some background on me.

The food was terrific, as one might expect, and the service was impeccable. For dinner we always went to the formal dining room. We enjoyed our table mates. I wore the tux on the three formal nights, and enjoyed it. On hindsight, we would change from the second seating. The late hour and early rising for shore trips were tiring for us. Sorry to say, we took in no entertainment. Stopped in on one, and found it mediocre at best. Never went back. Probably missed something good.

The Cruise Critic get together was on the first day out of Amsterdam. It was attended by about 20 passengers and so well worth the effort. I thanked the Celebrity people profusely. Our Celebrity representative answered so many questions, especially for us going on private tours in St Petersburg. Highly recommend all sign up and GO to this little added bonus feature. Great!

In addition to Amsterdam (our second visit), we called at Copenhagen, Stockholm, Helsinki, St Petersburg, Tallinn and Oslo. We relied heavily on Michelin Green Guide to Scandanavia and Finland, and the DK Eyewitness Guide to St Petersburg, Fodor’s Talk Boards, the Cruise Critic talk board, and the local tourist information centers for the attractions to see at each port. Ship’s historical/cultural information was frustratingly lacking; almost non-existant, except for where to shop, which helped in that regard. Except for St Petersburg, we took no organized tour, instead relying on our own abilities learned over the years to see things on our own. We stayed away from the crowds as much as possible and never felt rushed or herded.

Bandit, please do a review after your cruise. I on the Century in November, it is one of my favorite ships and hearing negative remarks makes me kind of sad. The service on that ship was always wonderful.

Looking forward to my cruise and hope you have a great one!!!!!!!!

Hi Bandit0000,

We were on the July 21st Century to the Baltic and had an excellent time. The ship appears to have been well refurbished and the staff were very good (especially the cabin staff and our assistant waiter - outstanding!).

Food - The breakfast buffet was the standard, but always good(smoked salmon & omlettes make us happy). The lunch buffet was my least favorite, however, one can always find something that they like as there is a great deal of choice. We found that we liked the selections and the relative quiet of the spa cafe.

Dinners in the main restaurant were very good especially the beef selections. However, we found the Murano restaurant to be wonderful and a great $30 value. We dined there twice and food and service were excellent.

Our cruise critic gathering was very successful (Carolyn Brown was onboard and provided excellent information). Alan King also attended and was very reassuring to all private tour people in St. Petersburg that we would be well looked after and off the ship on time (and we were!! - Celebrity was great)).

We did a combination of ship(Stockholm, Tallin, Oslo), private guide (St. Petersburg (Alla Tours-we think we saw more in 2 days than most people see in 3) and doing it on our own (Helsinki, Copenhagen). All were very enjoyable. It also helped that for the most part we had great weather.

The entertainment was fine - we enjoyed some nights more than others but overall the shows were enjoyable. The only downside was that by the end of the cruise Celebrity had miscalculated and they were running out of many of the popular wines. Hopefully they will restock and re-evaluate the types of wine that people on holiday like!

Enjoy your cruise. If you have any specific questions, I will try to answer.:)

We were on Century in June. Our room stewarts were good and our waiter and asst waiter were great. Most of the staff we spoke with had been on the Century for multiple contracts. They accommodated our every need. Agree that the lunch time fare was the least desireable, but there were enough alternatives that it didn't hamper the cruise. Dinner met our expectations and never had to send anything back. The people in the casino were fun, as were the activities staff. Activities were fairly laid back, but we were never bored or felt like we needed to be offered more excitement.

On an earlier thread someone mentioned that there was a moldy smell on Deck 4, and I have to agree with that.

One recommendation for the trip--I would get my souveniers from St. Petersburg while on shore. The ship has a Russia sale on board after it leaves St. Petersburg, but I found that what we purchased in Russia was less expensive and of much better quality.

Hope this is helpful to you. I do not regret sailing Century and would sail her again in a heartbeat. But as they say, "that's why there strawberry, chocolate and vanilla".

Hi guys, its great to hear opinions after some time has passed. Overall, I think the ship did the best it could. As others have mentioned, there were always alternatives in terms of food, including the aqua spa. I found the staff most gracious and have no complaints about service in the dining room or other food venue. I highly recommend Muranos - totally worth it!:)

just got off the century for the aug 2 baltic cruise. We absolutely loved the ship. we were in concierge class and the little extra touches were lovely. the cabin is small, smaller than many of the other ships we've been on, but it had adequate storage space, and the shower was the largest we've had on any ship (except for the suite with the tub!). The decor of the ship is beautiful, the food in the grand dining room was excellent. Compared to the other lines we've sailed (RCCL, Norwegian and Carnival) the food was a huge step up in quality. I suppose it would have been nice to have a cover on the pool, b ut we didn't really miss swimming, as we had picked this cruise for the ports of call! Our cabin steward was excellent, and our waiter and assistant waiter were the best! They were absolutely incredibly attentive to our every want and need. The highlight of our cruise was dinner at Murano's, our waiter had arranged for us to have the table in the wine alcove, it was very private for the 5 of us who dined together. The food and service was 5 star, and we compared it very favorably with the Relais and Chateaux inn's we've stayed at in the states, Canada and europe.

We loved having breakfast on our veranda before getting off the ship in port. WE loved all the ports except for Helsinki, there just wasn't that much to do and the city just didn't do anything for us. We loved Copenhagen, Stockholm, St. Petersburg and Talinn and liked Oslo a lot too.

We will definately sail with Celebrity again and are looking forward to the new ships debuting in 08!

Sailing TA on Century in late October. All reviews of Muranos are excellent. What's the menu like. Seems the goat cheese souffle is recommended as is lamb and the grand marnier dessert. What else is offered? And, are you limited to an appetizer, entree & dessert. Or, could one opt for appetizer, soup/salad & entree (not a big dessert eater)?

Murano's is wonderful. yes, you must have the goat cheese souffle. it is outstanding. the steak diane is flamed at your table, other entree's are prepared tableside as well. I had the rack of lamb which was outstanding. the desserts are to die for. we all had the sampler which was decadent!

definately a must do on the ship.
