Help with getting to Port Canaveral

Recommended Posts

I have tried researching this on my own, but can't find much. We thought about getting a rental car. Is there a rental car agency that you can pick up at MCO and drop off at the pier so we don't have to pay for parking or the car while we're on the cruise? Any other suggestions for getting from MCO to the port (we're looking for the cheapest option). Also, any suggestions for inexpensive hotels that are near the port?

There are several car rental agencies that will let you rent at MCO and drop off at the port. From what I've read, Budget is a popular one. If there are only 2 of you, that will probably be your cheapest option. If you have 6 or more, you might want to compare the cost of renting a car (or cars) vs the cost of shuttle services before making a decision.

We use Budget also. We have used Avis in the past but their staff is not near as friendly as Budget nor are they as efficient. They will take you to the port and pick you back up once the ship arrives so you can get your car back to the airport.

You can go to http://www.mousesavers.com and get discount codes for your rental that will save you some money.

I know that Hertz runs a shuttle between the port and their nearest location. I fairly sure that all the other major car rental companies do the same.

Goggle ["port canaveral" shuttle] it will turn up a bunch of links, some of which might be useful. Or, you can check out the Port Canaveral transportation links page at http://www.portcanaveral.org/portinfo/groundtrans.htm.

We used Avis this year. We picked it up at MCO and dropped it off right near the port and a shuttle was waiting to take us right to the ship. The same on the way back shuttle was waiting. The rates were excellent as they charge you by the hour if you do not keep it over night there were nine of us and we rented a 12 passenger van. We will do the same next May
