leighuf Posted August 30, 2006 #3 Share Posted August 30, 2006 Monte Carlo is NOT flat which made reading the maps I received from visitmonaco.com very difficult. See my photo below. As soon as you exit the train station and cross the little street, this is what you see. Winding roads, roads coming out of the hills etc. See me review on how I found Monaco. (hint: I just followed the crowd:p ) http://www.nickleighmills.com/medcruise.html
DonLou Posted August 30, 2006 #4 Share Posted August 30, 2006 The train station (Gare) is underground in the base of the mountain. There are two main hills. Among other sights, one hill (Monaco-ville) has the palace and the aquarium and the other has the casino. The train station is sort of between the two hills. It's walkable up to Monaco-ville but we ended up taking the public bus from there to the casino side and back to the train station. Here is a link to the public bus system. It's easy to use and I would recommend it because of the steep terrain. http://www.cam.mc/us/cam_us.htm
tom_uk Posted August 31, 2006 #5 Share Posted August 31, 2006 Questions of the 'where's the station in X?' variety remind of a story I heard a long time ago. There's a small village called Dent in the Yorkshire Dales, one of the UK's national parks. It's a very small and very beautiful village: old stone houeses & cottages, in a green valley with a river running alongside the village, and hills on three sides. It's a lovely spot. And it has a station, or at least there is a station called 'Dent' which is however about three miles from the village. And the favourite local answer to the inevitable question of "Why is Dent station so far away from Dent village?" is: "Happen they wanted to put it on't railway line...." DonLou Posted September 1, 2006 #9 Share Posted September 1, 2006 Seabee, I'm assuming you are referring to the bus route map. The train station is near the center of the map and is called GARE with buslines 5 and 4 written above it. It is within the triangle of streets (Bd. Rainier III, Bd. Charles III and Av. Princesse Charlotte). Please note that this map is just a schematic and not to scale.
