New York City hotel

Will you be driving in or flying in? There is a very nice Comfort Inn on W 46th St just 1/2 block up from Times Square. Parking is very expensive in NY. We are driving in May and staying at the Embassy Suites in Secaucus NJ and taking a limo service to the pier. You can leave your car there for free while you sail. Hope this helps!

As you're coming from Ohio, I assume you are not driving. If you are flying in, look for a deal on line. The Madison Sq Garden/Penn Station area is fairly convenient and from there, would be about a $10 cab ride to the pier. "Inexpensive Hotel" in NYC would still be $110-$125-ish, and in NYC, that is inexpensive. Some in the theater district can be had for that price range, as well, and also not too far (or expensive) for a cab to the pier. Also, depending on when you arrive, you might be able to snag some good theater tickets at the "2-fer" kiosk. I don't know of any hotel in Manhattan that offers shuttle from the airport and then to the pier.

It all depends on your budget. As others have pointed out, staying in NYC will be very high, even in an inexpensive hotel. NJ will be cheaper and the drive in isn't bad, just make sure to keep the traffic reports on - 1010 WINS (AM radio) gives traffic every 10 minutes.

There arent any hotels within walking distance to the pier as far as I know and if there are, they arent very nice hotels. I would try Priceline and ask for midtown, 4star hotels. You can get almost half off sometimes and its just a short taxi ride to their pier.

I booked a cruise at the last minute and was only able to get Hotel Wolcott at 4 West 31st street between 5th Ave and Broadway. Be there on 16th before our Victory cruise.

Be aware with the bidding sites you can't choose how many beds. So I wasn't able to use them. I booked with a company that beat eveyone's price. 888-649-6331 don't even remember their name I was so delighted to get 2 beds. I just don't think 19 yr old grandson wants to sleep with grandmom even in a king bed.

Good Luck let you all know if the room looks like the picture on the site.

We will be flying in the day before our cruise Sept 25th and we want to be close to a lot of places to see and walk to.

We found Shearton Manhattan on 7th ave at 51st. for $120.00 per person. It about a 10 minute or less drive to the pier.

It is a block from time square and 2 blocks from rockerfeller center. 5 blocks from central park. Also broadway is the street over.

Marcyjane,

Sheraton Manhattan is nice, its located across the street from the hotel I used to work at Novotel NY. It is a perfect location without being too far from the pier. I believe it was renovated a few years ago and I think it has a pool which is rare for Manhattan. There is a good restaurant for kids (if your bringing any) Mars 2000 something or other right on broadway. The TKS ticketbooth is located a few blocks down where you can get discounted tickets to broadway plays. My husband works at Rockefller Center, and its pretty to see the plaza, and the stores there. You should enjoy your stay in that part of NYC.

Thanks star65,;)

I just can't wait, We will pack a lot into a day, but then again there is a lot if you manage to pack a lot into your day.

I've about decided that it will be better for us to either walk or get a cab to Central Park from the hotel and take the carriage ride that evening late before dark and then still have time to get back to the hotel change and go for a 8PM Broadway show.

Doing the tour, Central park tour and Broadway show we will be sure to sleep well the night before the cruise.

You know you guys that live in New York Area need to start your own tours for us cruise critics coming in.;)

Thanks so much:)

Try the Holiday Inn on LaFayette Street. We just stayed there in june and it was very nice. The prices were much more reasonable too than most in NY. Good luck. You won't be disappointed here.

Ugh i had a big post typed out and it disappeared! There is this hotel near the piers about 5 minutes away if you drive from there to the pier and its a little known hotel. One of the rooms actually used to be Madonna's first apartment. They have some themed rooms for those who are intrested in staying in time period inspired rooms or a star trek room and many others and they also have some really great suites for about $139/night. My parents tend to stay in places like The Plaza, Marriot Marquee, Ritz Carltons etc. and they were really nervous about booking this hotel but they LOVED it! It was such a great atmosphere and everyone was so friendly and we got a beautiful room for practically nothing compared to most NYC hotels.

Here is the link you can find pictures, rates, directions etc.: http://starhotelny.com/index.html
