Bequia you are a wealth of knowlege.

Do you by any chance know if any on the SOBE hotels will store your luggage and let you use their pool if you get there at 9 am and can't check-in until leter in the day. We have a post-cruise flight of 8 pm.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

cheers,

PA

PA, I'm sure most will allow you to leave your luggage with the bell captain if your checking in later. They encourage you to use their facilities hoping you'll take advantage of their food and beverage offerings. Call any of the ones I listed above to be sure. ;)

Bequia - thanks for the listings! Very helpful! We are flying into FLL the day before departure, plan on hiring a car from the airport to one of the mentioned hotels. Two questions:

1. Is one of these hotels within walking distance of the port? Or is a cab neccessary from all of them.

2. Your remarks about the Holiday Inn make me want a bit of elaboration from you - it this property "rough", what is it about it that makes you say only for the budget minded?

Thanks again! :)

A vehicle is nescessary for entrance to the port. It's not geared for pedestrian traffic and would be a bit of a walk from any hotel in the area.

Only my humble opinion....the property is an economically priced, high volume hotel. As a result things tend to get worn out and refurbs do not happen as frequent as they should.

The JW MArriot, Four Seasons, Mandarin Oriental and the Conrad are not located in downtown Miami - they are located in brickell also known as the financial district.

I suggest staying in the Brickell area....most people miss this area and its such a short distance from the port. There are great places to eat and places to grab drink...especially for your kids... I live in Brickell and think its one of the best areas of Miami.....

I have 9 of us going in March out of Miami on the Triumph. 4 adults and 5 kids. Being fairly budget minded, can you give a recommendation on some place safe for the kids (and adults!), but reasonably priced (say in the $100-$130 price range). We are planning on getting two rooms, 2 adults in each room and splitting the kids (2 in one, 3 in the other) between the two rooms...

Any recommendations based on that? We are all family(me, DW, 5 DD's, my mother and sister), so "privacy" issues aren't a problem at all. (I.E. This won't be an issue: I see London, I see France, I see sissy's underpants!)

P.S. Free shuttle to the port is a plus!!!

The Holiday Inn gets very busy because of the cruise crowd no doubt. But the hotel was okay and the service was excellent. We got there before our rooms were ready and they put all of our luggage in storage until we could check in. The breakfast buffet was certainly worth the money, and the pool was always empty. Big Plus, being able to walk across the road to Bayfront market. Fabulous!

Another plus if you rent from Hertz there is a local edition drop off within walking distance of the hotel.

You can check the Radisson on the Bay:

Also, you should check priceline to try and get the Intercontinental (which is literally about 5 minutes from the port - you can probably get it for about $70-80 a night and its a great hotel. I've stayed there several times myself for some events.

There is also a Clarion Hotel in Downtown Miami, which is a few blocks west of the port but nonetheless still close or the Holiday Inn.

It is amazing the differences in experience. To us the only advantage to the Holiday Inn was it's proximity to Bayshore and the price. The rooms were ok and the higher floors have views of the port. To us, none of this makes up for the poor service (rooms not cleaned til 4pm) bad pool area and less than delightful dining experience. I would not say we wouldn't stay there again, but I can think of many places I would rather stay. NMnita

Thanks for posting all of the hotel information, links, etc. And, I'm sure lots of people have already asked this question but here we go again. Do any of the Miami hotels run a shuttle from the Ft. Lauderdale airport to the hotel? I called the Intercontinental and was told to go to ground transporation for the shuttle which charged $40 a person. Any better tips?

Tri-County Airport Express, $18 per person. Excellent service, no reservations required. ;) http://www.floridalimo.com/Pages/sharedr.html

When you arrive at the airport, collect your luggage and go outside the baggage claim area, lower level, curbside, contact one of the starters (customer services reps.) wearing a white shirt with "AIRPORT EXPRESS" in red on the back of the shirt and an emblem on the sleeve and over the breast pocket. Let the starter know what service you are interested in and he/she will assist you.
