Maasdam Cabin 709 Handicapped

Its been a few years, but we had cabin 709 on the Maasdam twice for a transatlantic and a Baltic cruise.

It is a large, L shaped cabin with a sitting area and the bed set back in the part of the L farthest from the door. Although it is an outside cabin, it has two large portholes instead of windows. Unless it has been updated, the bathroom is small by today's standards, but was adequate with a roll-in shower and roll-under sink.

We have had the similar room on both the Ryndam and Statendam. Although it has only portholes, there are shelves under these that create even more storage space. We found it better to separate the beds as with the two beds together it was hard to get the wheelchair and lift in place for transfers. One bed has a grab bar this way too (which helps us with turns for care) but not both. You can reach the light controls from that same bed. Since we had 3 in the cabin, I used a roll-away bed and properly positioned it was not in the way for using the wheelchair. There is plenty of closet space.

While the bathroom is smaller than most, it worked for us.

I have photos if you want them, and they are also posted on the Sailing on Wheels Yahoo! discussion board.
