sthrnbelle Posted September 7, 2006 #1 Share Posted September 7, 2006 Please bear with me, I know that this question has been asked a million times. My Aunt is traveling with my Uncle and their two boys next month and needs an answer asap. My Uncle sent away to Mass for his birth certificate and received a letter stating when, where, etc... and it does have a raised seal but it is not even on letterhead. Is this common in Mass? Also her boys are 8 and 15 and do not have picture IDs, are they required for children of this age?
cherylandtk Posted September 7, 2006 #2 Share Posted September 7, 2006 Picture IDs are not needed for the kids. Can't say what Mass certified BC copies look like, but I have not heard of one being described as a 'letter' before. Does his say certified copy of birth certificate issued by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts?
caribbean dreams Posted September 7, 2006 #3 Share Posted September 7, 2006 Some Birth certs. don't have a raised seal, some are now water marked. If he payed the money for a certified copy than is probably what he received. The kids only need a certified copy of their BC.
Jolly capn morrrgan Posted September 7, 2006 #4 Share Posted September 7, 2006 Requirement is "Issued by State Department" for BC's. Seals vary from state to state and era to era. Persons 16 and under do NOT require photo ID. My son takes his school ID just in case. Photo ID's need not be state issued.
