Options to Downtown FLL

Wondering if hotels in the fort lauderdale north or plantation areas are a viable option for pre-cruisers. Have seen some good reviews for 4* in these areas but are they too far from the airport\cruiseport? Just trying to increase my options for PL bidding. Anyone have an idea on cab fare to airport\cruiseport? What would your choice be?

Both Plantation and downtown areas are almost equal distance from the airport, cab fare should be in the $14 - $18 range. (Maybe less depending on traffic) Plantation is quite nice with many shopping and restaurant options. ;)
