For those of you wanting to perhaps plan your next cruise or extended vacation to coincide with this incredible island celebration here's the most recent news on Cozumel Carnaval 2005

July 8th the Cozumel Carnaval Committee for 2005 was officially announced and began working on the event.

The first order of business was to finalize the dates for Carnaval 2005. A logistical issue arises in 2005 since by law Cozumel local elections for Presidente must be held on February 6, 2005. This very important date falls during the traditional religious calendar dates for "Fat Tuesday" & Ash Wednesday and as such would pose 1) logistical problems for all city personnel having two such important priorities simultaneously and 2) an inconvenience to visitors since no liquor can be sold for the 1-2 days surrounding the election date. Consequently, local officials have decided to move Cozumel Carnaval 2005 to the following week and are in the process of notifying the general public and all those in the tourism sector so as to ensure those planning to visit Cozumel during Carnaval will have the correct dates for the celebration. Carnaval 2005 will be held February 9 - 16, 2005

Hello, The wife and I will be in Cozumel on February 14th and I just heard about this Carnaval. We will be on RC and will be docked from 7am to 4pm. We were originally going to do a combination trip Tulum/Xel-ha(8hrs) but now I am thinking it would be better to do a smaller trip and see some of the activities at the carnaval.

Do you know if anything will be going on during the day and how far away will this activity will be from the ship? Will we need to take a taxi to get there and back?

My thought now is to do a 4 1/2 hour dune buggy tour starting at 8am, this would then give us time to see some of the activities in the afternoon. We will be going to Costa Maya later in the trip and we will go to the Kohunlich Mayan Ruins instead of the Tulum ruins.

This will be our first cruise and first time in cozumel. Any info or advice is appreciated. We are 36 and will be leaving the kids at home.

The most exciting part of Carnaval, the parades, begin at 6pm on the 12th, 13th, 14th and 15th, right downtown. There will be some dance competitions during the day at the Moby Dick Center, which is a cab ride from any pier.

Enjoy!
