newrivercruiser Posted September 12, 2006 #1 Share Posted September 12, 2006 We are going on the Casanove from Amsterdam to Mainz starting this Saturday. The extended weather forecast seems to show 60% chance of rain throughout the week! Is this right? Anyone have any idea where to get an accurate forecast? Rare steamboats Posted September 13, 2006 #2 Share Posted September 13, 2006 newrivercruiser, Weather.com is quite accurate. You can also try www.wetter.de but that´s in German only. You should be quite fine. It´s nice and sunny for the rest of the week. Haven´t heard anything about next week by now. steamboats
newrivercruiser Posted September 13, 2006 Author #3 Share Posted September 13, 2006 Thanks, Steamboats. I'm hoping we'll have some sunshine! I'm also assuming the water levels on the Rhine are o.k. for now?

Carhut Posted September 14, 2006 #5 Share Posted September 14, 2006 I just returned from a river cruise last week, starting at Antwerp and ending in Basel, Switzerland. The river levels were just fine, and it was cool and rainy in Belgium and Netherlands. As we got into Germany, we got sunshine and warmer weather. But then that was a couple of weeks ago. It may be different now. But expect cool and possibly wet weather. If you get sunshine, consider it a bonus. Carole
bala girl Posted September 14, 2006 #6 Share Posted September 14, 2006 I too returned last week from an Antwerp to Basel riverboat trip. Agree that weather from Belgium down to Cologne was not great (I might have been on the same trip as Carole). But it wasn't constant rain. It would rain and then clear, then rain again and clear again. Make sure you bring some type of waterproof outterwear, and plenty of layers. And make sure you have closed shoes that won't get wet. Sneakers weren't the best choice - leather is better. Things got better the further south we went. Have fun - it was a great experience.
