LeeWalker Posted September 13, 2006 #1 Share Posted September 13, 2006 We will be on the Emerald next April sailing from Venice. Can anyone suggest any hotels around Piazza Roma area. We like that area as it's close to the cruise terminal and is the only place accessible by land taxi from the airport. We've checked out the Hotel Sofitel but like to have more options. Many thanks! Susan-M Posted September 13, 2006 #2 Share Posted September 13, 2006 I've seen the Hotel Carlton & Grand mentioned (we stayed at Sofitel and really liked it). Staying near Piazzale Roma is convenient for getting to the airport and cruise terminal (we used the airport shuttle bus @ 3E/pp from P. Roma to the airport). It's a bit of a walk (although an interesting one) to St. Mark's Square & you can easily get there by vaporetta as well. Tripadvisor is a great resource for both hotel reviews and general questions - here's a link to the Venice Forum, but also check out the Venice Hotels if you haven't already: http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowForum-g187870-i57-Venice_Veneto.html
Mark_in_Colorado Posted September 13, 2006 #3 Share Posted September 13, 2006 You can identify additional hotels near Piazzale Roma (and read some reviews) at the Venere .com web site: http://en.venere.com/hotels_venice/santa_croce_ovest/?sort=rate&view=map. I also suggest looking for reviews on the tripadvisor web site Susan mentioned in her post.
Rare taxatty Posted September 14, 2006 #4 Share Posted September 14, 2006 We stayed at the Hotel Carlton and it was decent, really a 3-star. The room we had faced the Grand Canal and had a nice view, but with the train station on the other side of the canal it was a bit noisy, even with A/C. It does have the advantage of being a short walk to the train station over one of the few Grand Canal bridges and a vaporetto stop. Les
