Sweeterpea Posted September 20, 2006 #1 Share Posted September 20, 2006 I know that Venice can smell quite strongly in summer. Someone told me yesterday that Venice will be quite smelly the time we will be there, early May. Can anyone else confirm this? I am pretty sensitive to strong odors. The tides will vary during the days that you are there, but I believe the water levels are the highest near the full moon. And there's probably a web site that you can check to see if the moon is full during your visit. And of course rain levels will affect the water level. But most of all I wanted to let you know that I've been very fortunate to spend 42 days there during times of various water levels--we were even there when it flooded once and had to walk the planks around town--and have not smelled the stench. We will be there in late May of '07, so I'll keep my fingers crossed for both of us. Have a great trip, Donna
NAS-KARR Posted September 20, 2006 #3 Share Posted September 20, 2006 Was there on a 3 day post-cruise in late May & early June this year and ZERO smell. How could anyone say that about Venice ? They look'n to critisize.......anything. CIAO,
Liv4cruzin Posted September 20, 2006 #4 Share Posted September 20, 2006 I was there the first week of May this year & noticed no smell. Which was not the case when I was there 3 yrs. ago in Aug. As Donna says, it may have something to do w/ the tides.

Mijuraad Posted September 20, 2006 #6 Share Posted September 20, 2006 Sweeterpea, Though I have been to Venice twelve times and will be there again in a few weeks, I have NEVER smelled anything unpleasant. However, I've never been in Venice in May. If you are worried, however, send me your ticket, and I will go there and check it out. And this I will do at no extra charge to you. chelledun Posted September 21, 2006 #9 Share Posted September 21, 2006 and no smell. NONE. I think it is actually my favorite city on earth!
Sweeterpea Posted September 25, 2006 Author #10 Share Posted September 25, 2006 I think it will end up being my favorite city too. The place we will be staying at was built in the 15th century and our room overlooks a bridge and one of the minor canals. It is run by an ex-gondolier. Can't get much more romantic than that!
