Can I apply CASH to shipboard credit?

I know this question has been asked, and believe me, I've searched but can't seem to find the answers...But for those in the know, for Princess,

 

1. Can I bring cash onboard and have the purser apply the cash to an onboard credit?

 

2. If I don't spend all of the $$ how will I get reimbursed and how long will it take?

2. You get a check for any leftover the night before departure from the ship; it can be cashed at the Pursers desk if you don't mind the long line.

Do you mean your onboard account? If so, then yes. You can pay your onboard account (daily if you want to) with cash. You can leave a credit card imprint when you check in then pay as you go. If you do not want to leave a credit card imprint, you have to leave a cash deposit at check in. Make sure you check your statement first, as sometimes the account has charges that you did not make.

I can answer the first question, yes they will accept cash put towards your onboard account. You can use cash, travellers cheques (which would be my recommendation instead of cash) or credit card.

We've always just put money onto our account every couple of days so we've made sure there was no leftovers.

We have friends that use their credit card to assure payment to their cruise card. But when they win big in the casino, which is most of the time, they just go and put it towards their shipboard account so their bill isn't as big at the end of the cruise. They don't like to see that CC bill when they get home. Works great for them.

On our cruise last year one member of our group wanted to use cash for his onboard account (didn't have any sort or credit card or checking account - we refer to him as the 40-year-old teenager). They required, for a 7 day cruise, a 300.00 minimum.

This method also works well for those of us carrying non-U.S credit cards that have alot of fees and surcharges when charging in American dollars. Then we pay by travellers cheques and no fees. Of course winning big at the casino would be even better. I wish I knew their secret. :)

:D On our recent CB cruise (9-9-06), I put my credit card up initially. The last night of the cruise, I went to the Purser's Deck and cashed in the Traveler's Checks that I brought along, and paid my on-board acct. in full. The line was not that bad, and it moved very quickly. The young purser's were all very nice and helpful, even with the lines continuing to form in back of us. I do not want to see those charges on my credit card bill, either, upon returning home!!

I've always used my credit card, and just got a nice expense check and decided that instead of seeing my expenses incurred, I'd like to pretend that everything was free by my paying for it all upfront. Trav Cheqs YES!

 

Silly, but hey, it's my fantasy...
