That's true. I realise that at the beginning of the program it was hit and miss. Our March docs did not have it on there...did it stop me...nope! I walked right up to that VIP line like I owned the place.

But I figured by 6 months later...they would have had all those bugs figured out. The docs we got for next Sunday had those magic words on them for the first time!!!!

Our 10th Carnival cruise was in April on the Fantasy and our docs did not have VIP or Platinum on them, but when we got to the regular check-in (Rep outside would not let us in thru the VIP door) the rep there escorted us to VIP check-in. Am sure it will show up on docs for January.

Now I have another question for some of you out there! We'll be taking some first time cruisers with us in January, traveling together, can they go with us through VIP check-in?

They can only go thru VIP if they are in the same cabin. Otherwise they will have to go thru the regular check-in.

We often travel with friends that are not Platinum-we just agree to meet on the Lido deck after we all get on the ship.

ETA-or if they are in Cat 11 or Cat 12

When this program first came out (and most of the docs did not have the VIP on them) I (and others) advised that folks take a copy of their cruise history with them as proof. For some reason, we got Platinum cards for the first time in July 2005 on the Spirit, but that was before they had perks that went with the "pretty card". So in March 2006, I had our Platinum cards from the Spirit as proof.

As it turns out, at Long Beach, the VIP Rep did not even look at our documents. We just walked up and and said we were lookng for VIP and she pointed us the correct way.

So how do you get a sailing history. We been on 5 CCL cruises and headed on #6. I have a few more to get there. But carnival changed there site a few years ago. In doing so removed alot of stuff like your old room #, etc, etc.

Go to http://www.carnival.com

Select My Profile (top right)

Select Cruise History (bottom left)

Add any cruises not listed. Unless they are past 1990....they should all be listed. We did have to get 8 cruises added because they started back in 1982.

Wow, I wish NCL would add past cruises! I've been on 17 cruises with them, but they will only count the ones that I've taken in the past few years since they started their Latitudes (past cruisers) program. In my mind, all the cruises I've taken with them should count. This certainly makes me even more inclined to cruise with Carnival as I am now at Platinum level with them - yippee!!

I'm having trouble with Carnival adding my two from the Festivale (1988 and 1989). The want "original tickets". Since it's 18 years ago, that's a pretty tall order (I don't even keep tax papers that long).

I have some pictures of boarding (with me holding my ticket - OK - I was excited :D ).

I'm still waiting to hear from them on this.

I had my Mardi Gras and Festivale trips added about a year ago. Carnival said that they needed the "original tickets" OR a copy of our embarkation photo showing the ship and the date. I faxed those photos along with our current driver's licenses and it showed up on the history in about 4 or 5 days. Is one of your pictures of boarding the official embarkation photo by any chance??? Good luck! :)

We had to have 8 cruises added going back to 1982 and we had embarkation pictures for all except the first one (Festivale). We faxed the embarkation pictures and a copy of driver's licenses. For the Festivale, we faxed a copy of a Kodak picture taken in front of the ship AND one of the luggage tags (front and back~~~which I still can't believe we still had). All were added without a problem. However, I must admit that my PVP may have been of some assistance in verification.

Booked my Glory cruise today. (Yeah!):D

Told my PVP that I only needed 4 more cruises to be a Platinum member. (This is my 6th cruise)

She said I would only need 3 more to make the required 9 cruises.

This surprised me, since I've read on these boards that you became a Platinum member on your 10th cruise.

She explained that some internet places, such as "Cruise Critic", were spreading the wrong word, and asked me to let everyone on here know that it is 9 cruises, not 10.

I guess it is all in the way you "interprete" it. Technically, you do become a "Platinum" member AFTER you have completed your 9th cruise. But the actual benefits do not start until your 10th cruise.

I did check the web site listed but one of my cruises taken in 2003 is missing. I tried to add but it wouls not let me. I do not have the old tickets but I have my paid reciept from my TA with my booking number and all other needed info.

How do I get that added? Who should I call?

If you go to the Carnival website...log in...go to "My Profile" (top right)

You will see a link that says "Cruise History". Select that and there is a link to "add cruises". Punch in the date and they will direct you from there where to fax the info to.

We faxed our info to:

IMC Specialist

305-406-6611

I included names and past guest number and a copy of my drivers license (with a photo) for verification.

You have to have be going on your 10th cruise. My PVP told me that I was Platinum when this is going to be my 9th and she was wrong. She did compensate by giving me a $100.00 on board credit. I was so excited to get the VIP and then to be told she was wrong. Oh well, just have to book another cruise and get excited again.

DH and I only had one not listed on our cruise history. I went back and looked at our personal photo album(pre digital cameras and computers) and found our booking number and our cabin number and sent them to CCL and the cruise was added. Good luck!

We are platinum and went on a cruise in August with my brother, a first time cruiser. We went thru VIP checkin he went the regular way. We agreed to meet on board. He beat us on. Go figure. Actually they had a computer issue and our sail & sign cards were not printed, so they let us on the ship, but could not go past the little picture taking machines. We had to sit there and watch everyone else get on board for almost an hour. You can imagine how tough it was looking at a bar and not being able to get to it (lol). Still had a great cruise though
