Book On Panama Canal

We will be going through the Panama Canal on our next cruise. Someone on our last cruise said there is a good book that we should read that discusses all the history of the canal so that we can get an appreciation on what was involved in the building of the Panama Canal. Is anyone familiar with the book and if so could you please let me know the name of the book and possibly the author?

Thanks,

Keith

We're on the Coral Princess on the 13th of this month and I am only on page 311 with 300 more to go. It's fascinating and a very good read. The beginning starts slow, so perservere, it's well worth it. Have gone through the French debacle and now am to the intrigues of getting the U.S. to change their minds and build the canal in Colombia (Panama) not Nicaragua. Good luck.
