katkell Posted October 9, 2006 #1 Share Posted October 9, 2006 We will be docking at Livorno on Sunday 18 Nov. Does anyone have any suggestions or information on what to see on a Sunday in Florence. We were thinking of doing a ship's tour, but after a bit of investigation, it seems that not many shops are open on Sunday's, and it is a bit hard to find out what else is open. Would we be better off looking at another area to visit?? Suggestions please!!
martyap Posted October 9, 2006 #2 Share Posted October 9, 2006 We will be in Florence on Sunday 11/5 off the Brilliance. We have Claudio Caponera as our guide. I believe "some" shops and markets are open for business and all museums have regular schedules. There were other tour options but we have never been to Florence so Sunday it is. Rare Keith1010 Posted October 9, 2006 #3 Share Posted October 9, 2006 We were in Livorno on a Sunday and took the ships excursion to Florence. The good news is that for the first two-to-three hours it was less crowded than on other days of the week. By early afternoon the crowds had picked up. While some say the stores are closed on Sundays, we found thta the majority of the stores in Florence were, in fact, open. Keith
Capsu78 Posted October 9, 2006 #4 Share Posted October 9, 2006 We did Florence on a Sunday as well in early September, knowing that 60% of the shops would be open. I can't recall now even seeing any closed. The locals were out in force and it was hopping, so don't let open vs closed influence your decision too much. scorpiojem Posted October 9, 2006 #5 Share Posted October 9, 2006 We also were in Florence on a Sunday. We took the ship's excursion to the Academia Museum, and then walked through the town, visiting several different piazzas. All the shops were open, as were all the gelato stores!!
