Getting to Miami

Hey everyone!

Just back 1 month now from Freedom Cruise (which we ABSOLUTELY LOVED!) and have now booked second cruise with two daughters on Liberty of the Seas for Dec. 2007. We are looking for any alternative "cost" ways to get to the Miami airport, flying into another Florida airport and taking a cab etc? We find that coming in from Toronto, Canada to Miami to be pricely and was looking into any advice that might be out there or if someone has done it another way?

Thanks to all who answer ....

You can fly into Ft. Lauderdale but the cab fare would be $75 + tip to Port of Miami. Same price on your return trip back to the airport.

If you're looking at airline rates NOW for Dec. 07, you're looking way too far in advance!!! Of course the rates are high more than a year out! Wait until next spring, and then start checking. Rates usually drop about 60 days out, until about 20 days prior to departure, and then they start rising again!

We just flew into Fort Lauderdale for our cruise out of Miami. It was much cheaper airfare for us. We took a 'shared ride' with Airport Express from FLL to the Port for $18 per person.

On the return trip from Miami Port to FLL, we rented a car from Dollar at $30. It was an easy trip both ways and we did save money this way.

But as previous poster said, just keep checking the airlines, you do have a ways out. Have fun planning!

Lucky you - the Freedom, now the Liberty!

I agree with the rest to look at all other airports as well from Central Florida down to South Florida to include Orlando, Naples, Ft. Lauderdale and maybe even some of the smaller ones to find the best rates. You can then rent a car for much cheaper than a taxi cab to get to the port. The longest trip would be from Orlando to Miami at 3 hours, but its really not that bad. :)
