Caitlyn Posted October 12, 2006 #1 Share Posted October 12, 2006 I plan on putting the $100.00 deposit down on my S and S card with cash. I understand that $40.00 (4 x $10.00) for tipping will be automatically deducted. Do I have to then put $40.00 more down on the S and S card. Do you HAVE to keep a TOTAL of $100.00 on the card at all times? I really dont want to use my credit or debit card. I want to use the kids cards to pay for their share of the tipping and then also their soda cards. They will not be allowed to use the cards without my permission. I will be keeping their cards with me. Thanks for any info.

When you check in you can let the person at the counter know you will not be letting your kids purchase anything on the card and they will put holds on their accounts, you should let the kids keep the cards incase they get seperated from you and need to get in to the cabin. (just my thought) The whole $40 per person will not be taken out at once, they will deduct $10 per day per person off the S&S card. I am not sure how much you have to keep on your account, i always just use a credit card.
janetz Posted October 12, 2006 #3 Share Posted October 12, 2006 Depending on the length of the cruise there is a certain amount you have to put down on your s&s card. I think, and correct me if I am wrong, 250.00pp for a 7 day cruise. ;)
momofzeke Posted October 12, 2006 #4 Share Posted October 12, 2006 Actually, they do take the $40 out all at once, and it will be on your S&S account the day you board the ship. You mention your kids ~ their auto tips will also be on your S&S account unless you set up a separate S&S account for them and deposit cash for that as well. If there are 3 of you cruising, for example, and it is a 4-day cruise, then $120 would be deducted from your S&S account the first day (4 days x $10 x 3 people). Mysticks1 Posted October 12, 2006 #5 Share Posted October 12, 2006 You can turn off the charging privileges for your children's cards or put an amount of cash on each one as their spending money. Last year we had our DD card as a room key only but this year she has saved her money which we will be applying to her S&S card. All of our tips were placed on my DH card and paid with the credit card that we had tied to his card.
suzy1212 Posted October 12, 2006 #6 Share Posted October 12, 2006 Do you HAVE to keep a TOTAL of $100.00 on the card at all times? No. When you run out of money on your S&S card, they'll send you a note letting you know you need to add more money. You can actually go over the amount, but I don't know by how much. I know it's at least $12. :D
mrdood Posted October 12, 2006 #7 Share Posted October 12, 2006 Did you search the Carnival site? Here is a link to the frequently asked questions: http://www.carnival.com/CMS/FAQs/FAQLanding.aspx Here is the specific link to accounts and deposit amounts: http://www.carnival.com/CMS/FAQs/Sail_And_Sign_On_Board_Account.aspx
Caitlyn Posted October 12, 2006 Author #8 Share Posted October 12, 2006 Yes, I had looked at Carnival and the search optiono here on this board. I just was confused as it states $100.00 (for a 4 day cruise) per person. So I thought I had to put $100.00 on each S&S card. There are 4 of us. Two are children. So, is this right, I can put $400.00 on just one S&S card. The tips will be deducted from that $400.00. We do not have to keep $400.00 (or $100.00 pp) on the card at all times. If I understand it and am correct this sure will help. I do not want to tie up my cc or debit card. We do not drink, so I think this amount will cover everything on board. Can you use cash to pay for your pictures or do you have to use your S&S card for those? Thanks for all the info. You are awesome and I appreciate all your help.:)

As Bren pointed out, photos go on the S&S card. The only things you can use cash for on board are casino, bingo and tips.

We do not drink, so I think this amount will cover everything on board. We put $400 on our cards about an hour or two after we boarded. You can buy drinks and such with them even before you've made your deposit. On some ships you can view your account on the TV. When we had spent the $400 we went and made another deposit of $300. We were overdrawn by about $12. When we got back to the cabin they had dropped off a note to let us kow we were out of money. Anything left in your account will be given back in a check after the last night. You can cash it at the purser's desk before you leave if you want. cherylandtk Posted October 12, 2006 #12 Share Posted October 12, 2006 If I recall correctly, they don't require a deposit on the children's cards if you disable them for charge purposes and put the tips on your account. So you could start out with only a $200 total deposit for the two adults. That will be quickly used up by the tips and a couple of soda cards, though. cruisinbuddy Posted October 12, 2006 #13 Share Posted October 12, 2006 Keep your $$ in your bank, use your CC, pay it off when you get the bill. With what you've stated wat you want to do, you're going to running to the pursers desk evey time you buy a drink. If you insist on the cash, you're going to have to put a lot more on it from the beinning.
