Beaches of So. Carribbean

Recommended Posts

I was on the AOS Oct. 1 and visited a beach at every port. Just thought I'd post what I experienced for those who are looking:

Barbados: we took a tour with Thriller and at end of tour, we had a beach stop at the Boatyard. We did not use the Boatyard facilities. The beach was beautiful, calm, soft sand. We were a ways down from the Boatyard facilities itself so it was very quiet and uncrowded! The beach is very close to the pier.

St. Lucia: We stopped at Jalousie Beach between the Pitons. It was a beautiful beach; however, the entry is very rocky. Once you pass the rocks though, it is nice. Very relaxing and you can't beat the scenery. Beach chairs were $10 each if you wanted to rent one.

Antigua: We went to Long Bay. This was our favorite beach of the whole trip. We rented a car to get there but taxi is $8 pp each way. Beach is the same stretch as Pineapple Beach. It's very clear, soft sand, gentle sloping entry and no rocks. There's also some snorkeling you can do there. Rental is $15 for snorkel. Chairs were $6 each and umbrella is $10. Great for kids (we had 7 in our group).

St. Martin: We only went over to Great Bay across the harbor and spent a couple of hours there. Fast drop and very rocky! Very wavy as well because of all the waverunners and boats. We rented 4 chairs and an umbrella for $10. Not ideal for kids although ours managed!

St. Thomas: We went to Sapphire Beach. Very nice beach, a little rocky at some parts of the beach entry! However, plenty of shade and it had some great snorkeling! Snorkel rental is $8 for two hours or $10 all day. Beach chairs were $6 or 7. No need for umbrellas because plenty of trees. There is a little snack bar and a little stand that rents out snorkels and chairs. Restroom and a little shower to wash off. Overall a great beach.
