Okay To Eat???

Our food was included in our excursion. We ate in a rather rustic open-air cafe that was right at the entrance/exit of the cave tubing area. The food was delicious and none of the 9 in our group had any problems later after eating.

When you say, "Where is it OK to eat?" do you mean the meal as included in the price of the excursion? On my snorkeling excursion through RCCL, we docked at San Pedro on Ambergris Caye, and our group went to a nearby bar/restaurant called Fido's. Anyone with the proper sticker was immediately brought a plate of chicken, rice, cole slaw and a juice (not the best meal I ever had, but I was hungry!). You certainly weren't forced to eat there and there would have been plenty of time to find another restaurant on your own if you wanted. My husband went on a ship's dive excursion and had a similar lunch, picnic-style, on a remote island.

being the inexperienced traveler (and BIG CHICKEN) that I am, I'm concerned about picking up unfriendly "germs" in foreign countries. Is that something I need to be concerned with?

Picking up a stomach bug is always a risk, but you could pick one up as easily on the ship as you could in a third-world country. Heck, people get serious illnesses from restaurant food all the time here in super-clean USA! Cooked foods are safer than raw and washing your hands thoroughly is always a good idea before eating. For the record, I had absolutely no problems after eating and drinking in Belize.

I'm always willing to take a little risk if I've come all that way and want to see sights I'll never see at home! And I'm certainly not going to forego eating all day!
