Charliesmom Posted November 5, 2006 #3 Share Posted November 5, 2006 In this instance, a chair hog is a person who shows up early to the pool area, puts a towel and a book on the chair and then leaves. The chair is reserved for them and those that need a chair don't have one. If people didn't do this, there would be enough chairs for everyone. spongerob Posted November 5, 2006 #4 Share Posted November 5, 2006 I had a great picture of a chair hog in action. I can't seem to find it. It was a man with a stack of pool towels, placing one towel each on a row of lounge chairs in a prime location, so that his family could come "whenever" to use the chairs. Placing a personal article on the chair precludes anyone else using it. Thus, they "hog" the chair.
threejs Posted November 5, 2006 #5 Share Posted November 5, 2006 Isn't it sad when the wind blows their personal belongings to other chairs?
Host Caroline Posted November 5, 2006 #6 Share Posted November 5, 2006 Since it's been explained and this has been debated -- and fought over -- and reinterpreted over and over.. I'm going to let this go temporarily BUT not if it degenerates one iota.

Host Caroline Posted November 5, 2006 #8 Share Posted November 5, 2006 Since the question was answered and a search of the words "chair hog" will bring up plenty of explanations, I'm going to close this thread to avoid another degeneration into chaos like the others on this topic:rolleyes:

Cruisin' Chick Posted November 5, 2006 #10 Share Posted November 5, 2006 I think most of us on this board believe that putting an object on a deck chair and then not using it for hours fits the description of a chair hog. And that it's inconsiderate. Hopefully those who just didn't really understand this why will realize that it's not a nice thing to do.
JLC@SD Posted November 5, 2006 #11 Share Posted November 5, 2006 I have seen chair pigs.........people that reserve a chair in the shade with personal items and also............reserve a cahir nearby in the sun with personal items............and then go back and forth between the sun and shade.....
southnevada Posted November 6, 2006 #12 Share Posted November 6, 2006 These are people that are a pain in the ass where ever they go. From the cruise ship to the interstate, they suck. And they know it and do not care. Trash cans are a good start for chair hogs. :)
Sandytoes Posted November 6, 2006 #13 Share Posted November 6, 2006  southnevada - That was a bit too descriptive wouldn't ya say... I didn't know what the term meant until I came to this board....How amusing it is to see & watch while lounging by the pool... Interesting to say the least. I guess it's human nature.....
