Zeno Posted November 6, 2006 #2 Share Posted November 6, 2006 Woven things (rugs etc) are generally good buys in Guatemala. Also I saw a beautiful hand-embroidered bedspread. Be prepared to bargain but offer a reasonable price (the people there are very poor and need ever extra penny they get). I was able to get a very nice small hand-woven rug for $15 (the starting price was $35).
VikkiGarcia Posted November 6, 2006 #3 Share Posted November 6, 2006 Are the vendors there the entire time the ship is in port? Can we wait until after an excursion to do our shopping?
marti2282 Posted November 9, 2006 #4 Share Posted November 9, 2006 They were there when we docked last week and when we pulled out. One vendor told us he would be there until 5:30. I think they make a point of being there whenever the boats are. We bought placemats, wall hangings, t-shirts. Very friendly people! Have a wonderful trip; they are beautiful people. Tarheelbelle Posted December 13, 2006 #7 Share Posted December 13, 2006 Yes, they have some fabric purses/wallets. Also saw a few nativity scenes. I did not think the prices were very good. Quite high starting prices. I am an experienced bargainer, and some of these folks were not dealing as I had expected from the boards. In fact, some were rude, even near the end of the day. I had better experiences in Panama and Honduras.
