Clothing for formal nights?

Hubby and I are going on the Star 12/16 Western Caribbean. Most of my formal type attire is velvet-heavy holiday attire. Will that be too hot? Should I go shopping?

It's freezing in the dining room. I wish I had worn velvety holiday attire!

Keep in mind that the ship is heavily air conditioned and the places you will be in your formal dress will be cool. And at night out on deck.....it is usually windy so we do not spend anytime outside.

I had short sleeve formals and was cool but not cold inside the ship, but then again, that was the Island. If you live near a David's Bridal, they often have sales of discontinued formals or tea length dresses. I got two for $20 each (and they are nice formals) which is perfect since I can only cruise every other year.

Velvet is appropriate and you won't be too hot. However, since you're cruising in the Caribbean, most people dress in lighterweight clothing and bring a shawl or cover-up for the cooler areas onboard.
