rain_bowbrite Posted November 13, 2006 #1 Share Posted November 13, 2006 Hi, I posted this question in the Grand Turk section and haven't gotten any replies so I decided to try it here. We are going to be in Grand Turk in Feb and would like to rent a scooter and explore the island on our own but neither have driven a scooter before. Are they difficult to drive if you have never driven one before and is a foriegn country an okay place to experience driving one for the first time? Any advice or information on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks:)
Capt_BJ Posted November 13, 2006 #2 Share Posted November 13, 2006 Don't http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=101123 This thread is about Bermuda but it is the same in all the islands After sending too many crew home busted up I finally banned their renting 2 wheel motor transportation of any form. Even experienced riders, are not used to driving on the left and typical island drivers...and then there is the often questionable condition of the cycle (can you say .. no brakes.....) And let's not consider the possibility of a libation tossed into the equation. In my youth I did it too .... no ... not a good idea
serene56 Posted November 13, 2006 #3 Share Posted November 13, 2006 I agree with Capt-- after reading these boards for a few years now-- there is just too many horror stories out there. (actually one would be enough) These places that rent scooters are not governed by rules of the US so you dont know when they were last inspected. You dont know how safe the vehicle is that you are renting. Because you dont never drove one-- you wouldnt know if a part was missing etc..
