Grand Princess Is Back Home

Most of the improvements were technical and mechanical, not cosmetic. They had to do with the engines and navigation equipment.

The balcony furniture was brand new, and they replaced the partitions between the balconies with fire-proof ones!

Some of the hallways had new carpeting. Some of the furniture in the public rooms was reupholstered where needed. The ship looks really great!

We were disappointed that the bedding wasn't upgraded. They do not have fitted bottom sheets, so the bed comes apart if you are a restless sleeper. The blankets are unattractive as well. Our room steward did not know of any plans to improve the bedding. Overall, the cabin was very comfortable.

It IS possible that some upgrading might be done while the ship is back in the U.S. for the winter. It makes sense that they would make some improvements while the ship is here so they didn't have to pay the freight to ship linens, mattresses, etc. over to Europe!

When Holland America started upgrading all their linens back in 2004, we got really spoiled!

Just fitted bottom sheets would be a big improvement!

Everyone be sure to stop by the Wheelhouse Bar and say hi to my dear friends Allan and LaDonna. They are an outstanding duo from Austin Texas. They play mostly classic pop/rock and roll. LaDonna also plays the sax and harmonica. Allan does some outstanding Rod Stewart songs. They got on the ship in Barcelona and will be on the Grand until March. They spent the summer on the Star--it was their first cruise ever and now they are hooked. Talk about a paid vacation....

Looking forward to seeing the reviews from the new season including Roaton Honduras info. The stop in Playa Del Carmen was a highlight for our trip. Too bad they ditched it. Maybe we were the only ones who liked it.

If interested, don't forget to check out some pics from my trip on the Grand here:
