Rare nimbex1970 Posted December 1, 2006 #29 Share Posted December 1, 2006 A few questions for the seasoned non cruise traveler; -Did the insurance claim adjuster use natural lighting or did he bring his own generator... I'm worried about the glare from the 6 feet of water. -What has happened with room service? Does pizza hut still honor the 30 minute delivery or free pizza now that they had to paddle their way? -Did you call FEMA and request an upgrade to a dingy boat level or just settle for the 6 feet of water on the lower deck? -Didn't fellow pax complain about the extensive length of the muster drill? When no representitive showed up to give directions, did the drill now become drinking optional? -If a neighbors beer was found floating by... did this get added to your sail and sign account when you helped yourself? -finally how much credit did you get for your non cruise... because there are others on this site waiting to compare their compensation to yours. finally, I'd have to say that with only one possible winner in the hairy chest competition, you didn't give the wife a fair shot at the dance and shaking to the judges and possibly won by assumed default.... thereby forsaking your imaginary ship on a stick. If you had a real non soggy place to display this golden trophy I might be tempted to demand a recount. On a serious note... let us know that with the "masses" if letters to fema, insurance... anything can help. You know this is a great supportive group that will rally by your side.... Not knowing how to help... you just might have to spell it out for those of us that have stayed on the dry side..... I'm pretty sure, no I'm sure we'll be there. thinking of you carol
tkportersat Posted December 1, 2006 #30 Share Posted December 1, 2006 Best of luck to you! I hope you are able to go on a "real" cruise again soon. Sounds like you have definitely earned it! Sierramist Posted December 1, 2006 #32 Share Posted December 1, 2006 To Suzy1212, I can agree with most of your advice, however, being an ex-smoker I think it's a disgrace to be able to smoke in almost all part of a cruise ship. First, it's very dangerous and second, it smells just awful.

denb Posted December 1, 2006 #34 Share Posted December 1, 2006 Great review!:D Wow, the first review thread I've ever seen on the boards where nobody responded by bashing the OP for something they said! Well.... yet. ;) I think we can throw out the second sierramist post/bash, as it appears to be a reply to a different post.:o
jerseydolphin Posted December 1, 2006 #35 Share Posted December 1, 2006 I hope it gets better dealing with Katrina/ FEMA issues. You sure do have a good attitude dealing with this hardship. Let us all know when you cruise again. You have a great sense of humor and I'm sure you are a lot of fun:)

Hairy chest contest:D, I laughed so hard I was crying. I sure hope everything works out for you and you get your house back soon and you get to cruise soon. It is crazy how long it's taking. Good luck to you, and keep your sense of humour. You are an inspiration to us all. :)

I think it was DEFINITELY 5 oclock somewhere, somewhere :p To the OP, you have a great attitude... bless you and all of the others for keeping such a great attitude, during the most trying of times. I hope that you do cruise soon, and I hope it is magical. Best of luck putting your lives back together... suzy1212 Posted December 2, 2006 #39 Share Posted December 2, 2006 To Suzy1212, I can agree with most of your advice, however, being an ex-smoker I think it's a disgrace to be able to smoke in almost all part of a cruise ship. First, it's very dangerous and second, it smells just awful. What planet...er ship are you on? Smoke in almost all parts of a cruise ship? You can smoke some places outside, in your room, the casino, and in a few (not all) bars. You can't smoke in the theater, dining rooms, some of the bars, some areas outside, library, shops, and hallways to name a few. I apologize to the OP for the highjacking of your great thread. Some people can find any reason to whine about smoking.
flynrph Posted December 2, 2006 #40 Share Posted December 2, 2006 Maybe it's me, but what the heck is this smoking cr*p doing on a non-cruise review? Maybe they work for FEMA......

cruisinsly Posted December 2, 2006 #43 Share Posted December 2, 2006 Who won the belly flop competition? OOOOHHHH, I just gotta know. Ice carvings, napkin folding???? Did you partake in any of this? Kareoke? Seriously, great review. I enjoyed your humor. I hope that FEMA will hurry up and do what they are suppose to do so that you can go on a cruise again soon. Lightsluvr Posted December 2, 2006 #45 Share Posted December 2, 2006 Always remember to buy non-cruise flood insurance. You just never know when you'll need it. LL
nolaAlive Posted December 2, 2006 #46 Share Posted December 2, 2006 I guess some people just aren't cut out for non-cruising. You still have time to try to win a free cruise on NCL: http://www.happybirthdayncl.com/ Perhaps consult a deck plan? There is a casino at the end of Williams Blvd. As for where to non-cruise, it is hard to beat New Orleans. The regular dining rooms may be less than satisfying, but the specialty restaurants are better than the best of the best aboard cruise ships. Unless there is more flooding, no need for dramamine. But a sense of humor is a requirement... Particularly when levee repairs that were promised to be completed before the start of the 2006 hurricane season, still were not complete at the end of hurricane season. MMW37 Posted December 2, 2006 #47 Share Posted December 2, 2006 That b%^*$& named Katrina is the reason I live in Florida. My husband's company transferred us here after the storm. Our last real cruise was our honeymoon, on the Conquest out of NO, and we got back Aug 14, 2005. 2 weeks before Katrina. One of the few good things about this state (trust me - it's not the food) is that we can drive to more ports. We leave on the Legend 2 weeks from Monday. Good luck with your rebuilding, and hopefully you can get away from it on a non-non cruise soon. I miss NO!
racegrrl Posted December 2, 2006 #48 Share Posted December 2, 2006 Ya know, it puts it all in perspective! Last week our carpet got accidently installed in our neighbor's house (really weird, l o n g story, that kind of stuff only happens to me!) DH was mad and I was even more upset. Now I feel bad for all of it. I am just happy I have a house to worry about putting carpeting in. :o The review made me chuckle and tear up at the same time. Best wishes to the OP. There is a special place in heaven for people who have had to endure all of this.
jgmpuma Posted December 4, 2006 Author #49 Share Posted December 4, 2006 Thanks for all of your comments. I would respond to each but we are way too busy planning our next non-cruise. To tell you the truth, we have gotten a little tired of not cruising on Carnival, and are planning to upgrade. We are seriously considering not cruising on Crystal, and going for a fourteen-day non-cruise instead of the usual seven. Might even consider NCL to see what we think of free-style non-dining. When I wrote that non-review I didn't want to sound like I was feeling sorry for myself, and am happy that it wasn't taken that way. Lots of people have it far worse than we do. I have an incredibly strong and supportive family, and we always find something to laugh about - usually ourselves.
lonestarmikeb Posted December 5, 2006 #50 Share Posted December 5, 2006 All i can say is thank you for showing us that there is still life after katrina even if it is non cruising. By the way why not do the three month non world cruise?
