Taxi availability question

For our day in Key West we plan to visit the Southernmost Point, Hemmingway House, Truman Little White House (in that order) and travel by taxi. The hope is that we can move more quickly, and perhaps more cheaply, than by using the Old Town Trolley. Afterwards we will stroll along Duvall Street as time and energy permit.

The question is: can we just flag down taxis at these locations or do we have to call them by cell phone?

All of these places you mentioned are on Whitehead St. The ship ties up at one end, and the Southernmost Point is at the other end. The Hemmingway House and Truman Little White House are in between. It's a 1.5 mile walk from end to end. To hit those places in the order you mentioned, just take a taxi to the S.P. and walk back toward the ship.

Thanks Mike.

Are they the biggest or the cheapest?

LOL. They are both, as the rates are fixed at $2.75 for the first fifth of a mile and .55 for each additional fifth of a mile. Very reasonable when compared to many vacation destinations. And they are pink, so you will have no trouble spotting them.

Have a great visit.

Mike:)

That is pretty much the game plan, with the option of taking short hops by taxi back towards the ship if my elderly parents do not feel like walking any more. I now know that it is doable. Thanks everyone for the input.

We did a similar taxi sight seeing tour in Oslo and it works better than using a hop-on hop-off bus.

We were in Key West last week on the Rhapsody. We arrived at 3:00 PM so were in a hurry to get to Hemingway House (closes at 5:00 PM), to the southern most point, and back to Mallory Square the the sunset entertainment. We hailed a pink cab near the dock & went to Hemingway House ($6.00). The cab driver gave us his card to call when we were ready to leave which we did. It only took the cab about 5 minutes to get there & we then went to southern most point, took some pictures with the cab waiting. Then on to Mallory Square & we got there to see sunset and the entertainment ($11.00). We then walked Duvall Street after dark. We had a great time and were able to fit in all we wanted to before sunset. I would have liked to have seen Truman Little White House but time just didn't permit to fit in what we wanted to before dark. Have a great trip!
