  1. I was torn between nautical and modern. My favorite decor has been on HAL's older ships and Celebrity's newer ships. But modern slightly edged out nautical for me....but only by a hair.
  2. I agree. I've seen crewmembers throwing away rubber ducks, but I've never seen them throw away someone's door decoration. That tells me how they feel about the 2 subjects.
  3. I see nothing wrong with tastefully decorating a door for holidays or celebrations. We've done it a few times. When others do it, we tend to smile. Unfortunately, some people take it way too far or they lack decency, but they tend to be in the minority. Of course, it is a community of thousands of people, so there are always going to be the Mrs. Kravitz's walking the halls in utter disgust at others' enjoyment.
  4. Disney wish is only 2 years old, and Voyager of the Seas is 24 years old. I have not been aboard Wish but I think it's safe to say she's the nicer ship. On the other hand, 4 nights beats 3 nights. Coco Cay has become a private island destination in and of itself and yes, it has a dock. Not for nothing, but I know a lot of people who were die-hard Disney fans until they tried RCI and realized they can get just as good a cruise for a fraction of the cost. Rarely do I hear it the other way around. Good luck on your selection.
  5. Have you considered Viking Ocean? That's the first line that comes to my mind with this statement.
  6. I don't think you realize how far and remote those destinations are, not to mention weather and tides. Again, the PVSA is not to blame for the lack of cruise ships going to those destinations.
  7. Absolutely. That was taken from the ship's top deck looking aft. I was at the aft rail. Ship was southbound after having left Skagway. I'd say it was around 11pm.
  8. Oh yeah, May was a great month this year. In fact, they were visible as far south as California. This is one of the pics from that cruise.
  9. The PVSA has nothing to do with those ports not being regular and frequent cruise ports.
  10. According to this source, it has not impacted the cruise schedule: Ketchikan Port Calls Continue as Planned After Tragic Landslide (cruisehive.com)
  11. I think it depends on the Captain. Last year, on Ovation of the Seas, they turned off all the upper deck lights and posted crew every few feet to help people get around. It made for excellent viewing. This past May, on Quantum of the Seas, they didn't turn off any lights. Luckily, it was a very vibrant display, so the deck lights didn't have too much impact.
  12. Here's how it works. Cruz actually nailed it. USA and Canada share the U.S. DOJ's National Crime Information Center (NCIC) database. When a person is arrested, an entry is made into NCIC of the arrest along with the charges. It is upon arrest that a person is alleged to have committed an offense, because an arrest would not occur without probable cause. The minute it is entered, it will be detectable by both US and Canadian agents at the border. Updates are entered upon formal charging by the court and with adjudication, but it all begins with that initial arrest.....in other words, when the offense was committed. Entries might be delayed if a written notice to appear is issued rather than a physical arrest. However, that is very rare in DUIs, and not allowable on felonies.
  13. Landslides seem to be more and more frequent lately in Alaska. Scary.
  14. Um, the link you just provided says "if you have committed or been convicted of a crime".
  15. No, DougH was correct. Canada clearly says, "arrested or convicted." Entering Canada with a DUI - Canada DUI Entry 2024 (canadaduientrylaw.com)
  16. I see you're only considering short 3/4 nighters. With that in mind, I disagree with a couple of the posts above recommending Carnival. Except for maybe Margaritaville at Sea, Carnival is the very last line I would cruise on for such short cruises. Been there, and never doing it again. Based on the details you provided, I recommend Celebrity Reflection. Celebrity is a really nice, chic cruise line with good food, great entertainment, and lots of areas to simply relax. I'm not sure what shows are currently playing on Reflection, but Celebrity does have Cirque style shows on several of their ships. As others said, you really should consider adjoining rooms. Unless you book a suite, 4 adults in a standard cabin is very tight. Much worse than a dorm room.
  17. Can't say I disagree with the OP. I just spent 3 days in Juneau for work and I watched the ships come and go. RCI sails 2 Quantum Class ships to AK, and HAL, Celebrity, Princess and NCL are all sailing their largest ship classes to AK. Heck even Silversea's largest ship, Nova, was there. Beautiful ship, I must say.
  18. Tell me this is a joke. NCL actually advertises sailing BY Glacier Bay?
  19. I can only recite RCI's policy because they are the only line I have sailed post-COVID. You can take aboard 1 bottle of wine per drinking-age adult and if the wine is for cabin consumption, there is no corkage fee.
  20. I've been there in October, and on the last ship to visit for the season. Most of the smaller shops were closed.
  21. Yes, you can take your water bottles ashore. We like to hike in AK ports, and we always take our bottles with us.
  22. That area is far from downtown, so the ships have not been impacted other than certain excursions. It's really unfortunate because this is the second incident in a relatively short period of time that a glacial dam outburst has caused devastation along that river.
  23. Of course it is. I realize drinking is a topic commonly synonymous with cruising but in reality, you should approach it like you do everything else in life. Being non-drinkers doesn't prevent one from going to restaurants and shows at home, so it shouldn't on a cruise ship either. Go, enjoy your cruise, and enjoy the entertainment. 🙂
  24. I can't remember the last time I saw a cruise brochure. I used to love reading those things, especially all the highlights and deck plans of the ships themselves. Like others have said, Oceania and Viking flood my mailbox almost daily with mailers. I wouldn't call those brochures though.
