Barbara Hornblower Posted December 16, 2006 #1 Share Posted December 16, 2006 Hubby and I want to get away from the expected mob scene downtown (6+ ships in port that day!), and are considering the following excursion on HAL; is this tour worth it at $65? From everything I can read, you need to find secure transportation to and from the Botanic Garden, or you might get stranded. This tour is supposed to last about 3 1/2 hours. Thanks & cheers! Enjoy your visit to Grand Cayman experiencing the rich history and some of the exotic fauna and wildlife on The Cayman Island Heritage Tour. Get onboard your air-conditioned bus and head south, through the historic South Sound area, past Smith Cove and along the coast, to explore the colorful history and wildlife of Grand Cayman. Your guide will describe various points of interest and historic sites on your journey along the Southern Coast until you each your first stop, Pedro St. James "Castle", known as the birthplace of democracy in The Cayman Islands. Visit the completely restored great house which was built in 1780, stroll through the beautiful gardens and other restored buildings overlooking the Caribbean Sea. Also experience thunder and lightening storms inside the unique multi media theater on site. From there, the tour will continue on to the Queen Elizabeth II Botanic Park; 76 acres of natural and manicured grounds, restored Caymanian homes, brilliant native flora and fauna, native wildlife and the famous Blue Iguana, found only in Grand Cayman. Stroll by an explosion of tropical color as you learn interesting facts about life past and present in Grand Cayman. After your tour of these beautiful gardens it's time to board your awaiting bus for the journey back along the coast to downtown Georgetown near the cruise ship terminal. You'll want to bring your camera so you can have plenty of memories from The Cayman Island heritage Tour!
Rare hcat Posted December 26, 2006 #2 Share Posted December 26, 2006 we also considered this tour--the gardens and the other place each have their own website you can check to help make up your mind. While the gardens seem great we can catch them in April when we return & the other place was not what we were looking for...... We decided to do the little tram tour (I am on light activity for now) Hope to find a nice place for lunch or head back to the ship-- any snorkel trip is also very nice & we did enjoy the excursion to Spanish Pt--far but not overcrowded--the hotel has a pool, great open buffet & bar & snorkelling... Hope you find something nice!
