cruiseapril Posted December 17, 2006 #1 Share Posted December 17, 2006 Compared to CocoCay, what is Half Moon Cay like? Thanks in advance for any comparisons.
cruiseapril Posted January 1, 2007 Author #2 Share Posted January 1, 2007 Does Half Moon Cay have more to offer than CocoCay or are they about the same?
sportsterjohn Posted January 7, 2007 #3 Share Posted January 7, 2007 they are both similar. Half Moon Cay does have the clam shells and cabanas though. I though the swimming was a bit better and Half Moon.

kc320 Posted January 13, 2007 #5 Share Posted January 13, 2007 The activities are similar, Coco Cay has the water park feature that Half Moon doesn't. I thought the water at Half Moon was much prettier, lot's of rocks & seaweed at Coco Cay. But either place is a great place to kick back & enjoy a beach day! Typhoon1 Posted February 16, 2007 #6 Share Posted February 16, 2007 There is no comparison. HMC is probably the finest of all the private islands

Knights on the Beach Posted February 18, 2007 #10 Share Posted February 18, 2007 Hmmm . . . I know a lot of people like Labadee, but it's got to be my least favorite of the private islands.
letsgocruz1 Posted February 24, 2007 #11 Share Posted February 24, 2007 I thought CocoCay's island was a bit prettier. It had lots of shade, plenty of hammock's to lounge in, and more private uncrowded spots without having to walk so far. RCCL also had a more organized BBQ...four food stations compared to two at HMC, so there was no line. However, the water at HMC was so much clearer and prettier. Loved the angel fish swimming around. CoCo also had lots of sticky clay-type sand while wading out. HMC just has that soft beautiful sand. Either way, they are both gorgeous and promise a terrific time. I'd love to visit either one again. (And I do get to go back to HMC in Oct...YIPPEE!)
mikaula Posted February 27, 2007 #12 Share Posted February 27, 2007 I've never been to Coco Cay but I have been to Half Moon and Labadee and for me - I would choose Half Moon anyday. The cabanas are heaven and the water and sand are to die for. It was total relaxation! I would take a cruise to Half Moon and stay in the bay for a week. Board the ship every night and get off every morning and hang out on that beautiful beach.
Typhoon1 Posted March 10, 2007 #13 Share Posted March 10, 2007 The many travel and cruise publications consistently rate Half Moon Cay as THE FINEST private island in the cruise industry. Having just returned from Princess Cays, I can see why.
tmtip Posted March 28, 2007 #14 Share Posted March 28, 2007 It will have to be pretty good to beat Disney's Castaway Cay! I will be at HMC next week, I guess I will find out for myself then!
tmtip Posted April 10, 2007 #15 Share Posted April 10, 2007 Just back from HMC--I must admit that it is the best private island that I have been to (even beats Disney's Castaway Cay)!
gumballz Posted April 11, 2007 #16 Share Posted April 11, 2007 tmtip, what made HMC better than Castaway Cay...in your opinion?
Typhoon1 Posted April 11, 2007 #17 Share Posted April 11, 2007 Just back from HMC--I must admit that it is the best private island that I have been to (even beats Disney's Castaway Cay)! I told you it's the best. The thing that ruined Castaway Cay is when they built the dock. Keeping those islands undeveloped is a high priority. Rare GaryWT Posted April 25, 2007 #18 Share Posted April 25, 2007 My order is HMC, Labadee and then CocoCay. All great but HMC's water was perfect and clear and clean as anything, the sand on the beach was the best I have ever seen. It was just great. Typhoon1 Posted April 25, 2007 #19 Share Posted April 25, 2007 Now that Carnival is using HMC also, I certainly hope it does not fall into a state of disrepair.

I highly doubt anyone will allow HMC to fall into a state of disrepair, regardless of who's using it.
Rare GaryWT Posted April 26, 2007 #21 Share Posted April 26, 2007 It is still only 1 ship a day I believe, plus they have owned it for how long?
cruising forever Posted April 27, 2007 #22 Share Posted April 27, 2007 So, are you saying that Half Moon Cay doesn't have those nuisance rocks between the beach and where you enter the water? Wow, would that be a huge improvement over some of the other private islands!
cruiseapril Posted May 3, 2007 Author #23 Share Posted May 3, 2007 Now I can answer my own question! We were at Half Moon Cay last Thursday. It is beautiful- the water is clear and the sand firm and clean-the swimming was almost perfect and we swam for hours. However- we decided that CocoCay has a better set up for beach chairs and activities- with chairs in different areas. CocoCay also maintains a certain level of natural beauty without too many buildings. Also when we were there last year, the swimming was excellent despite a few rocks and pockets of seaweed. On the other hand, Half Moon Cay provides many civilized amenities and shops and sitting areas in the central plaza. We understand why it is so highly rated.
