lemare Posted December 29, 2006 #1 Share Posted December 29, 2006 Good Morning everyone, My family and I are booked on the Baltic cruise next July. We were planning on spending a couple of days in Amsterdam prior to sailing. The ship leaves out of Rotterdam, and I was wondering if anyone had knowledge of HAL providing transfers for AMS.to Rotterdam on the day of sailing and where to pick them up. Any opinions on Hotels in AMS.(with elevators) would be helpful too. Thanks for your info! lemare
SEVANS5331 Posted January 17, 2007 #2 Share Posted January 17, 2007 There are 2 of us from NY.We are staying in the Amsterdam Renaissance because that's the hotel the cruise line uses. Anyone interested in booking a private tour, maybe to the Hague and Rotterdam, going with our luggage and winding up at the piers. Was looking into car rental, but it was too confusing. i have no idea where the drop off point in Rotterdam is.
Atomica Posted January 18, 2007 #3 Share Posted January 18, 2007 I am not sure about HAL transfers (I would imagine they can be purchased separately, as most passengers would be flying into Amsterdam), but I do know you can take a train from Amsterdam to Rotterdam - the travel time is between 60 and 90 minutes, and from my understanding, the main train station in Rotterdam isn't too far from the docks. The only thing to watch out for is luggage space on the train - if you have a lot of luggage, the train might be more hassle than it's worth. Ine Posted January 18, 2007 #4 Share Posted January 18, 2007 Good Morning everyone, My family and I are booked on the Baltic cruise next July. Thanks for your info! lemare The best but maybe not the most comfortable way will be one of the frequent trains between Amsterdam and Rotterdam. In Rotterdam you will need a cab or metro to get to the cruise terminal. It is too far to walk. With much luggage trains are not very convenient, since you will have to load and unload your luggage, storage will be another problem. Donot travel during rush-hour and travel 1st class, that might work. Keep an eye on it at all times. If HAL offers transfers either from Amsterdam and/or the airport that will be the easiest way. Hotels in Amsterdam with elevators are plenty. Donot know what type/price of hotel you are looking for. I have made a list of just a few, maybe that helps Banks Mansion: http://banksmansion.carlton.nl/default.asp?tc=UK&action=page&paginaID=5401 Amstel Hotel: http://www.ichotelsgroup.com/h/d/ic/1/en/hotel/amsha?&cm_mmc=Google-PS-InterContinental-_-B-EMEA-_-Amsterdam-_-Amstel+Hotel%7C-%7C-6962107277956458370 Ambassade Hotel: http://www.hoteliers.nl/amsterdam/ambassade-hotel/ Movenpick Hotel at the cruise-terminal: http://www.moevenpick-hotels.com/hotels/HKAMSHH/hotelWelcome.htm Hotel Pulitzer: http://www.pulitzer.nl/templates/mercury.asp?page_id=4607 Radisson SAS Hotel: http://www.radissonsas.com/cs/Satellite?cid=1053502946171&pagename=RadissonSAS%2FPage%2FrsasHotelDescription&language=en&hotelCode=amszh Victoria Hotel: http://www.parkplaza.com/webExtra.do?hotelCode=NETAMST Crown Plaza: http://www.ichotelsgroup.com/h/d/cp/1/en/hotel/amsnl?_requestid=1189162 Renaissance Htl.:http://marriott.com/property/propertypage.mi?marshaCode=AMSRD [/url]Hotel Estherea: Hotel Brouwer: http://www.hotelbrouwer.nl/index.html Hotel Le coin: http://www.lecoin.nl/indexEN.html Hotel Aalders: http://www.amsterdam-info.com/Hotel_..._Amsterdam.htm Hotel Piet Hein: http://www.hotelpiethein.nl/engels.html Hotel Jan Luyken: http://www.janluyken.nl/janluyken/ NH hotels (a.o. burny Posted January 18, 2007 #5 Share Posted January 18, 2007 after finding a hotel in amsterdam you can book online a taxi from amsterdam to the Wilhelminakade in rotterdam ,were the cruiseterminal is.you can book it on www.taxiplaza.nl . You can enter your tripdate and information and they will give you the names of the companys with their prices. It will be between €110 and €160 for the 55 minute trip to rotterdam per cab (at least for 3 persons). I don't think the transfer by HAL will be cheaper. succes!
Rare Copper10-8 Posted January 18, 2007 #6 Share Posted January 18, 2007 Here's another resource: http://www.enhr2007rotterdam.nl/pages/transport.htm We used a car and driver last year and it worked out great. He was waiting at the Schiphol tranfer point (big red and white checkered tower). The drive took about 45-50 minutes right to the hotel in downtown Rotterdam (cost was about 90 Euros). Train service is very dependable, fast and relatively cheap but like Ine said, you don't have any room in the compartment for large and/or a lot of luggage. You would have to sit near the exits on collapsable seats. The Rotjeknor train station is NOT within walking distance of HAL's berthing location which is across the Erasmus Bridge next to the Hotel New York.
