Ocean Boy Posted January 1, 2007 #1 Share Posted January 1, 2007 I have not been able to find any information on this. I am curious as to whether or not the California Lighthouse is open for people to climb. I have this thing for climbing lighthouses. If it is I would most definitely make a point to go there. If it isn't, is it worth making the trip out to the end of the island to see the area?

The lighthouse is not open to the public, the massive door at the base is securely locked so as not to allow entry http://www.thejanskys.org/lighthouse/Other/calif.html

Springdale Posted January 3, 2007 #4 Share Posted January 3, 2007 We were in Aruba in June 2006 and rented a car from Avis right on the dock. We drove to the California Lighthouse area. You can see it for a long way in the distance before you get there. We could not go inside the lighthouse, nor was climbing permitted. It's a nice area to visit. There's a restaurant there with outdoor seating. It was very windy when we were at the lighthouse. There's an interesting sign there that explains a lot about the lighthouse and history of the sailors in this area. Nice view of the ocean from this area too. showe0208 Posted January 7, 2007 #5 Share Posted January 7, 2007 I agree, the ligthouse is a nice area to visit, but if you worry about your hair forget it. The wind is vicious. The whole Island is windy but especially at the lighthouse. I liked the lighthouse only wish I had time to go into the restaurant there. I heard its really nice and great views! If it isn't, is it worth making the trip out to the end of the island to see the area? So the story goes, many years ago, someone climbed to the top and did a swan dive. After that, it was closed to the public.
