On Board Credits

We received certificates for on board credit for Christmas. On the back it states they can't be used for gratuities. Does this mean it can't be credited towards the $80 for tips? I thought the credits could be used for anything. Would appreciate any info. Thanks.

What it sounds like you received are funship dollars, which are different than an onboard credit... there are stipulations to the fsd's... I generally apply them to my account, but spend FAR more than just those so it's never been an issue. I have no idea how they would handle it if you didn't spend the amount you applied in fsd's... but I do know there is a list of what they can and cannot be used for. If you had a traditional onboard credit, you could use it for grats, unless otherwise stated.

I have used funship dollars on my cruises. Last cruise that is the only thing I used to place on our account. $400 worth for the two of us.

We used it for our tips. and got a casino credit that cost us 3%.

The coupons also state to mail them but i never did that either-- i just took them with me-- and went to the pursers desk the first night (late)

when we checked in we told the person we were placing cash since we didnt have a credit card.

anything left over you will get a check on the lst night-- that you can cash for free at the pursers desk

After reading this thread,I looked on the back of the FSD certificate that I got for Christmas...Has anyone else ever presented them when they boarded the ship,or do I need to mail them in..I really dont want to do that..serene56,have you used FSD more than once? My cruise is coming up soon,so I would appreciate knowing if anyone else has ever presented them after boarding..thanks,Dot

I have used funship dollars every cruise. I have never mailed them in-- dont trust to do it that way. If they got lost I have no proof.

IF needed and they gave you a hard time--which they wont-- you just tell them you just received them as a gift.

What I do with the dollars is buy one each pay after I book so by the time I cruise all my onboard stuff is paid for. I booked our Liberty cruise about 3 months ago and I have 6 $25.00 certificates so far. and yes I will NOT be mailing those in either.

Fill them out now- saves time at the pursers desk..also if you lose them the people finding them cant use it.

You said you got 80.00 as an onboard credit. I have only seen increments of 25.00 Is the 80.00 one something new?

Not all onboard credits are the same. Carnival shareholders receive a credit but it cannot be used for tips

Are you sure? I have received the shareholder credit on six Carnival cruises and have never seen a restriction about tips. As a matter of fact, I'm pretty sure I used the credit for tips.

Once applied to your account how would Carnival be able to seperate what you used it for assuming you go over the $80? Unless you tried to prepay tips using it?????

Like Serene said...you can use funship dollars towards tips. They are credited to your sail and sign. You can use them towards anything on the ship. We have used them several times. Don't mail them...take them to the pursers desk when you arrive.

GoinCruisin: Yes they are Fun Ship Dollars. What got me confused is they ask you to check off On Board Credit.

I think I will just carry them on and bring them to the Purser's desk for credit. No chance of them getting lost that way.

you get two options to check off-- one is cabin credit- the other is to put it towards your cruise. Since your cruise is already paid for youwont be checking that box. you WILL check off the box that marks it as onboard credit.
