themnms Posted October 28, 2008 #1301 Share Posted October 28, 2008 Hi Candie... I vote Carnival all the way!! We went on the Valor this year in May and we have another one booked on the Freedom next May. We had so much fun and we felt very comfortable. We did have one incident though. We were in the "adults only" pool with a bunch of friends (mostly lesbians but not all). There was a couple sitting on the side of the pool. Apparently, the guy had a problem with us and went to security to complain that we were making too much noise! So the little security guy came over and stood there to watch us. I couldn't believe it.... Well I couldn't resist the temptation to asked security what the problem was. He was very nice and told me that there was a complaint but he didn't see a problem. He stood there just a few minutes longer then left. A few minutes later, one of our friends ran over to the pool and yelled "HEY GUYS THERE ARE LESBIANS IN THE POOL"!! A few of us jumped out of the pool yelling "OMG, WHERE!!" Needless to say, the couple left the area after that. Everyone in the whole area broke out in hysterical laughter even people who didnt' know us!! IT WAS THE BEST!! I just wanted to share that story to let you know that there may be idiots on every cruise, but you can still enjoy yourself. Happy cruising!! Angel :) lmao that is a funny story!!! Wish you had it on video!! I agree, I love Carnival and never a problem..in fact normally the opposite!!!
angelsbaby1 Posted November 12, 2008 #1302 Share Posted November 12, 2008 (edited) Hi All We are back from the 2 day sailing for the naming of the new Ruby Princess. She is a truly amazing ship! The crew was a dream. We were invited to the christening where the Godparents Trista & Ryan Sutter from The Bachlorette were also attendants at a lovely Ruby Red wedding during the naming ceremony. The "Love Boat's" Capt. Stubing gave the bride away. All passengers were asked to join in the celebration by wearing "Ruby Red" attire for the evening. Was quite a stunning event. Capping off this evening was the start of my 45th birthday celebration. My partner Angel and I partied the night away. Usually we are in bed by 10p but, this night we were up past 3a. Woo Hoooo!!! There was plenty to see and do on our little adventure, I took pics of some of the highlights, a few are in our signature. We are off to christen the Celebrity Solstice this weekend I'll post pics when we get back. Take Care AnitaMarie Edited November 12, 2008 by angelsbaby1

mithryl Posted December 30, 2008 Author #1307 Share Posted December 30, 2008 For anyone who did the latest Olivia cruise...how was it? Our next cruise is 2/7/09 - Sapphire Princess- Mexican Riviera. We're also looking at a Panama Canal repositioning cruise in late April 2010. It goes from Ft. Lauderdale all the way to Vancouver, BC (20 or 21 days). We've mostly done mid to large ship sailing (1800 to 2600 passengers). Has anyone sailed on Princess (or other lines) small ships that only have 760 passengers? I think I'd like to try it, but don't know if it would feel too confining after being on larger ships. Happy sailing for everyone's upcoming cruises! ...and thanks for keeping this thread alive. I think we've probably set some kind of record by now! Vicki

killer32 Posted January 1, 2009 #1310 Share Posted January 1, 2009 My partner and I went on the 35th birthday bash- our first Olivia cruise. Here are my observations 1- Atmosphere is great. It is nice to hold hands, kiss, etc and not even think twice about it. 2- People were great- the women on the cruise, the staff, etc.. Very friendly. 3- Stops were pretty good except for the DR stop. We did not get off the boat, but from the reports of everyone who did it was a disaster. 4- The best stop was the last- their private island on the Bahamas. 5- Entertainment was good- some good some not so good. 6- Weather was good- except very windy the first couple days and the boat was rockin! Many sea sick people. 7- I lost some bucks in the casino- so that stunk! :( (but not blaming them)
sunnyshine Posted January 12, 2009 #1311 Share Posted January 12, 2009 I haven't been here in forever! My fiance and I are booked on the Enchantment of the Seas in September. We were trying to decide between an Olivia cruise for just ourselves or a "family vacation" with 14 others this summer. We (for some strange reason :p) chose to do the family vacation this year with RCI and we'll do the Olivia next year. Glad to hear you guys had a good experience with Olivia. Seasickblues Posted January 13, 2009 #1313 Share Posted January 13, 2009 Everyone should throw caution to the wind and try an Olivia vacation whether it is a cruise or a land vacation. Yes, it is expensive but like any other trip you can have a year to pay for it. We've done both and they are memorable! :)
TravelingProf Posted January 13, 2009 #1314 Share Posted January 13, 2009 I agree. We have done 2 Olivia cruises and 2 Olivia resort vacations. While they do cost more than a regular cruise, they are anything but regular!! We have never had a problem on a ship and have met some great people on our regular cruises but with Olivia it is a world of difference. It is more of a community on water (with great entertainment) and the atmosphere is great. And--no hairiest man contests! Because they do cost more and because of scheduling problems, we mix up our vacations. But given the chance, I would rather go with Olivia. Just my 2 cents :p Ann Marie
OCLadies Posted January 13, 2009 #1315 Share Posted January 13, 2009 Thank you everyone for your input!!!! I think that we are leaning more towards RC cruise. But we are still looking.:D Like most things in life it depends on what you're looking for, but for us we'd rather sail RC anyday than Carnival. Carnival advertises as the "fun ships" and yes they are....filled with "fun" loving drunks. Of course IMHO, so as not to offend anyone. The old adage "you get what you pay for" rings true in the Carnival vs Royal Carribean comparrison. We've sailed Carnival, RC, Princess and NCL. NCL is our favorite by far as no other line offers us the type of butler/conceriege service that we are use to. Regardless which line you cruise on there is no better way to spend a day than on the water. Enjoy

Just my 2 cents :p Ann Marie I know that Olivia is something that so many people enjoy, but we're doing a 7 day and a 14 day, in balcony cabins, this year, for less than a 7 day on Olivia. So far we've cruised twice a year for the past 2 years and took a cruise and a week long European vacation the year before last. Economically, non-Olivia cruises continue to win out. My 2 pennies only :)
Gator83 Posted January 18, 2009 #1321 Share Posted January 18, 2009 Hi, I've been on 4 Olivia cruises and one land-based Olivia vacation but I am changing and going on non-Olivia vacations because they are a better value and I only like the comedians when on Olivia...I don't like a lot of their other entertainment. But...since Olivia seems to be doing a lot of discounting and 2 for 1s the price isn't as bad but it is still higher and for me it isn't worth the difference in the cruise. I do understand why some people only want to travel on Olivia but I am definitely ok with non-Olivia trips.

MishelleMcc Posted February 1, 2009 #1325 Share Posted February 1, 2009 This is a very old thread but I thought I would give it a try. My wife and I agree with the rest of you. Although we had our honeymoon on Olivia Caribian January 2006, we have not been able to afford another one since. It was an experience of a lifetime - no dobt - but who can afford it? So we discussed a straight cruise but my wife is worried that she wouldn't feel comfortable enough to be herself on a straight cruise. I agree with you all that if we could get an informal group of like minded lesbians together and pick a few cruises a year to "shoot for" that we could get the best of both worlds - great price of a straight cruise with companionship of other lesbians! If anyone is interested in "putting our heads together" about this, I would love to participate! By the way, my name is Mishelle and my wife's name is Sue. We are 49 and 45 with no children in the nest. We live in Nampa Idaho. Currently are going to Cabo san Lucas 3-6-09 for 9 days. We rented a time share off Redweek for 7 days for $400. Couple cheap motels before & after, airfare and we're good to go! We are meeting up with another lesbian couple who have been married for 10 years and have a time share there. It's a little late but if anyone else wants to tag along, contact me and I can give you more details! mishellemccormick@hotmail.com
