Just Back from the Legend

This was my 7th cruise with Carnival. I had the most amazing time on this cruise, but it had nothing to do with Carnival. This was a chartered cruise with my favorite band, Barenaked Ladies. The company that chartered the cruise was in charge of all of the entertainment. It was fantastic.

I really enjoyed this class of ship. We had cabin 7258, which has a very large balcony.

Unfortunately, I was highly dissapointed with the food and service. I don't know if it was because we were chartered, or if that's just the way it is. I don't understand why they would slack off on these things just because it was a chartered cruise. We are still paying good money for this vacation. Plus, most passengers had never been on a cruise before, you would think they would want to impress them.

At dinner one night, we ordered our drinks when we had our menus. They didn't show up until we had our dessert. If you wanted sour cream with your baked potato, it would take 5 minutes for it to show up.

The Lido deck buffet food was better than the dining room. My prime rib was dry and just awful. The midnight buffet was a huge dissapointment. Every night it was breakfast and chili dogs. ??????? Again, I don't know if this is normal or because it was chartered. I just don't know what this would have to do with being a chartered cruise. You would really think they would want to impress the passengers so that they would want to sail Carnival again.

When they announced the last night that they will be doing another cruise next year, people were shouting to please have it on another cruise line. Everyone was complaining about the food. But, next year it will be on the Carnival Victory. Which when they announced it I groaned because that ship doesn't have a supper club. The supper club was one of the highlights of our cruise.

My fiance did very well in the casino, so he came home happy. I had a nice massage, but it was a bit expensive. And I just wanted to have a regular massage, but they wouldn't offer that to us. I had to have a scrub with it.

I enjoy hanging out on the aft deck. But there were no towels back there. You have to go through the unicorm restaurant to one of the other pools to get a towel.

The ship took us to Turks & Caicos. We did a kayak excursion which was pretty fun.

Things I loved:

24/7 ice cream

Juice stations all over the lido

the basket of samples in the bathroom

bed and pillows very comfy

my balcony

the desserts on the lido deck

Supper Club

the weather

I never got a chance to hit the jacuzzi's and the water slide. Maybe next time. :)

I was just going through my email and there was one from my boss who sailed the Legend on the last normal sailing before it went charter. She said the food was very hit or miss in the dining room on her cruise too.

I should also mention that on our cruise we had open seating so that we could sit with whomever we wanted each night. So we missed out on the dining staff getting to know us. It also seemed like they were very under staffed. And none of them expected the dining room to be so crowded. Which I don't understand.

A few more points to add.

Embarkation was pretty slow, but that was because we had to wait for the band to set up to take a picture as we boarded. Otherwise it was well organized.

Debarkation was a breeze. The fastest that I have ever experienced.

I was on over New Years, and the crew kept talking about your cruise. They also said they have one more Charter with KISS on the ship. On our cruise I thought the food was very good all over the ship. The shows I thought needed a lot of help, but you were very lucky there.

Sounds like nothing at all has changed on that ship. I was on it during the 1/3 (1/4) sailing and experienced about the same thing...mediocre food, issues with drinks, et al. One would figure they would have spruced things up for private charters, but apparently not.

I was there, too, Laura! Soooo much fun, but you're right, the service and food was sub-par. I think it was due at least in part to the fact that all of our gratuities were prepaid by Sixthman, so the staff was perhaps less inspired to work as hard to please everyone. Plus we were right on the heels of The Rock Boat, and I have a sneaky feeling that they were a raucous bunch!

My only real complaint was the poolside drink guy...mister "rolling r's". Ugh! He was just plain creepy!!! "Sexcellent!"????? Who says that?

Hmmm...doesn't sound like the food that I had on the Legend last month. It was very, very good!
Unfortunately, it does sound like the food we had on the Legend last month, at least for the first several nights in the dining room. Service was a bit off, as was the food. It did improve towards the end of the week, but it sounds as if they are still having some issues.
