Questions about Mini-Suite (AE)

I'm going to be in room 1212 on the Sun (yay!:) ) and I was wondering--are all AE rooms the same? From the deck plans that I can see, they have different layouts, and some of them look bigger? Does anyone know about this? Are they all 274 square feet or are some smaller?

This is the link I'm looking at:

Also--tell me about your Mini-Suite experience. Is the bathtub wonderful? Is the concierge service a great perk? What do I need to be sure and have him/her do?

All advice/opinions welcome.

Thanks!

I have asked this myself a couple of times in a few different places. No one answered me either. I'm looking for information on the mini suite on the Crown.

I guess no one else uses them but us.

Let's make a point of coming back and posting our experiences after we've tried them, okay? :)

I was in 1001 on the Sun 12/29/05 ten day cruise and the mini suite was wonderful. We had one bad evening of 22-24 ft. seas and I got seasick but would book that cabin again in a heartbeat. I loved being forward and seeing everything. The bathroom and the tub was large but the walk-in closet that was also a dressing room was the best.

I've read that you can't use the balcony while underway but we sat in our lounge chairs, read and just enjoyed having that much space. (I ws born in March so perhaps I simply love the wind) Once you sit down the wind isn't so bad and the night of the high seas I went out and with my caftan on felt like the "Flying Nun", got the giggles and thought about being caugtht up and flying over the reat of the ship. It's a wonderful ship and I hope to sail her again.

In March I'm off to try the Pride of Hawaii and have been fortunate enough to end up with a Courtyard Villa. Once you go mini suite or above you can never go back to a balcony, the extra room makes the trip so much more enjoyable.

We have a group going on the Sun on 2/18/07 and one of our rooms is 1213. When is your cruise?

Well, RSWBadger, I've read about not being able to use forward cabins while underway many times here on this Board and never responded because some posters come across rather abruptly in responses such as yours.

My daughter and I did not have any problems while we were moving and enjoyed the forward cabin.

My question to you is what cruise line told you not to use Balcony's when underway, I have never heard of this and have always have a balcony.

I don't read anything in my comments as abrupt.

I'll be there March 25. Let me know what you think of the rooms!

Oakview--thanks for the review. I'm looking forward to trying the room out!!

To RSWBadger, your question was so succinct it came off rather terse. Sorry if I was a bit defensive. No one at any company told me anything about the balcony. i have read many people saying they could not use the forward balcony while underway and I simply am making the statement that you can use the balcony facing forward if you don't mind a lot of wind AND when you sit down on one of the loungechairs, you can be quite comfortable.

To answer another question: AE Mini suites on the Sun get Priority embarkation and disembarkation (as of 1/7/06). Anka, the concierge has all AE and above guests meet in the library for disembarkation and she escorts the group off the ship.

We love and enjoy the forward balconies...only exception was coming back to NY in the N'easter:eek:

Love going out on the balcony and seeing where we are headed:)

I apologize if I came across that way, what you probably read in the board discussions was on the Forward Cabins/Suites below the Bridge, all lights should be off and the Drapes should be closed at night when underway to keep the vision in front of the Bridge Dark.

I'm one of those people who reported about the w i n d across the balconies of the forward cabins. However, no amount of wind wouldn't deter us from choosing another forward cabin, and we'll be in one again in two weeks. As Cosmopolitan said, there's something magical about standing on your balcony as the ship pulls into a new port.

We've had forward and aft cabins on the Sun, and we're having a hard time deciding whether we prefer aft or forward. Guess we'll just continue alternating.

RSW, you're probably right about the above/below the Bridge. I think we were above the Bridge so balcony lights would be a non issue.

Regarding the aft cabin, I was booked in one for the March POH but now have a Courtyard on 14 and my daughter and friend have an AC Penthouse forward with a HUGE balcony. So, all of us will enjoy that. The next cruise I definitely want to experience an aft. However, being forward is fabulous. Standing on the balcony watching all the activity while in port is fantastic. Last January we were in the perfect vantage point to see a couple of Cuban men adrift on styrofoam being rescued by the staff Dr. That was very sobering to see.

It is a beautiful sight watching the ship pull into port. Let's be honest, just BEING on a beautiful ship is a privilege to be savored and enjoyed to the fullest.
