Petra $ Wadi Rum in Aqaba Jordon

We were to Petra & Wasi Rum on a Grand Cirlcle tour last March.

Petra is amazing. Unlike most ancient ruins which are built by putting blocks of stone on top of others, Petra is carved into mountians. The most famous is the Treasury. It is about 125 feet high, 40 feet wide and 35 feet deep. Most of the buildings in Petra were created as burial chambers, so the Treasury is not a financial place.

Wadi Rum is about 2 hours or so from Petra and 12 miles from the Saudi border. It is where Lawrence of Arabia led the forces against the Ottomans and the end of WWI. We were in 5 seat four wheel drive jeeps with a driver/guide for an hour and a half of two hours riding around. The scenery is spectacular. I would recommend both places.
