Ragnar Danneskjold Posted February 6, 2007 #1 Share Posted February 6, 2007 Hi, When checking-in early (noon) on Mariner, is there a secure place we can store a couple of daypacks (one with a laptop in it) so that we can lunch and explore the ship without having to drag them around? (We are shipping our suitcases to the ship, so we won't see those until our cabin is available.) Thanks, Rag
JoAnne B Posted February 6, 2007 #2 Share Posted February 6, 2007 If you are in a butler cabin, you may be able to have your butler put the bags in your cabin even though the rooms have not been cleared. I'd suggest that you ask at check-in. JoAnne B
dfb Posted February 6, 2007 #3 Share Posted February 6, 2007 You can place them in your cabin (any, even the lowest level cabin!) even before it is ready for you. Don't worry about it, if no one offers to accompany you with your carryons, then just get a deck plan map and drop them off in your cabin yourself. It is standard procedure, never fear. Ragnar Danneskjold Posted February 6, 2007 Author #4 Share Posted February 6, 2007 Is the in-cabin safe large enough for a medium-sized laptop? My laptop has always fit in the in-room safes at hotels. Ragnar :eek:Paranoid:eek: D.
dfb Posted February 7, 2007 #5 Share Posted February 7, 2007 Haven't been on Mariner yet, but the room safe on Voyager would not hold our laptop. Sorry.
Pam Posted February 7, 2007 #6 Share Posted February 7, 2007 I've never put my laptop in a safe yet, and it's still right here. No, the safes aren't big enough, but you have no need to worry on RSSC ships.
Porterhouse248 Posted February 7, 2007 #7 Share Posted February 7, 2007 Sorry, no room in the Mariner safes for a laptop. Mine laptop is quite small and it wouldn't come close to fitting. Essentially, they're just a few inches deep -- enough to accommodate small items.
JDRMYS Posted February 7, 2007 #8 Share Posted February 7, 2007 We use the safe to accomodate cash, credit cards, travel documents and other small valuables. However, even if there were no safe, we would feel that our property is secure in our suite on any RSSC ship. I really doubt that anyone would steal your laptop. TheWaywardTraveler Posted February 7, 2007 #9 Share Posted February 7, 2007 DH's laptop stayed out during our entire voyage - no problems!
Ragnar Danneskjold Posted February 7, 2007 Author #10 Share Posted February 7, 2007 Thanks all for the info. If it were my own laptop I wouldn't worry, but this one belongs to my employer and has a lot of confidential data on it. I have it password protected, etc., and everything is backed-up. Unfortunately, I have to take it with me because I have several projects in motion that I have to manage while on the cruise  Someday I'll be able to escape work entirely for 10 days in a row... (like when I retire in three years at the ripe old age of 55 :D)

Jymi-B Posted February 9, 2007 #13 Share Posted February 9, 2007 If you're quiet about it, you can usually go to your suite and stick the carry on stuff in the closet and then explore. Have your nametag on it so if the stewardess sees is she knows it's yours and not something left behind.
esther e Posted February 9, 2007 #14 Share Posted February 9, 2007 We always to to our room and drop our stuff. I hate to walk around with luggage, no matter how small. Never been a problem.
