Cruiser Drive-a-thon For Roatan Orphans

Roatan, Honduras . . .If you've been there, lucky you! It's a beautiful, lushly green mountainous island surrounded by beautiful aqua-blue waters. The people are warm and friendly. We fell in love with it.

It's also a place of stark contrasts. There is notable poverty there. But I didn't hear any whining. They also know that education is a way out of poverty for their children. The schools all teach english, and our guide's english was flawless and nearly unaccented.

There is also a school / orphanage there (CSI International) run by a fellow by the name of Brad Warren. They are doing good work under very difficult circumstances. A few cruise critic folks have decided to help Brad with needed supplies.

I'm doing a 'drive-a-thon' next week. I-10 from Jacksonville to Houston. Collecting supplies for Roatan along the way. They need school supplies, socks, underwear, medical and personal items.

If you live along that route, and could donate a few supplies for the kids of Roatan, I'll meet you, gather your supplies, and take them to Houston, where an NCL cruise ship will take them to Brad in Roatan.

How about it? Let's show the world that cruisers are a generous group!

We have had some responses from great folks who're helping. Thank you!

Cruisers on the NCL Sea are taking supplies June 19 and Aug 21. (Still need July and Sept cruisers!)

We are also finding folks to meet up with and get supplies to cruisers in Houston before boarding.

Now, we need some more folks to donate supplies...
* either along I-10 during the drive-a-thon,
* OR who'll mail supplies for another sailing.

 • 7 months later...
We will be going to Roatan in March on the NCL Sea.... is the cruise line providing any support for this project? or is it just cruisers who are going there. If we collect supplies.... where will we store them until we get to Roatan? How much "extra" luggage can we take???

I'd like to help, but need more info.
