Hi Jim Jam: Yes, your balcony for the category B cabin will accommodate a lounge chair, and two people quite easily (don't worry, you also get a chair for the other person:) ). I'm including a link to Rev Neal's Cruise site. He has been twice on Zaandam, and posted a wonderful album of photos and commentary regarding that ship. (Hope that's OK with you, Rev Neal.) Sorry, no info on Ryndam, although if you wait a while, Rev Neal will be cruising on that ship next month, and will probably put together another beautiful set of photos....... Karin ps The "B" category cabins on both Ryndam and Zaandam are 292 sq ft including balcony, per the Holland America stateroom information on their website..... RuthC Posted February 20, 2007 #3 Share Posted February 20, 2007 The cabins on the Zaandam and Ryndam are identical within a category. It's only the public areas that are a triffle different. The placement of the Pinnacle is different, as is the set-up of the Piano Lounge or Bar. Like all the R-class ships the Zaandam has the mid-ship staircase/elevator bank; the Ryndam, being an S-class, doesn't.
gizmo Posted February 20, 2007 #4 Share Posted February 20, 2007 You can't go wrong with either ship. The Zaandam is a little larger and newer. Ruth has pointed out the main differences. I really like the center stairs/elevator banks. On the Zaandam the aft pool is on a different deck then the Ryndam and has a bar. The Zaandam's Piano Bar is more like an open lounge area. The Ryndam has a true Piano Bar. The casino bars are entirely different. You may want to consider the intineraries. The Mex Riviera the Zaandam is doing this year is not an option in 2008. The Ryndam Sea of Cortez is the only 10 day Mex/Riv cruise for 2008.
KBC Posted February 21, 2007 #5 Share Posted February 21, 2007 If my memory serves me correctly, the Ryndam balconies are metal, whilst the Zaandam are glass fronted??
gizmo Posted February 21, 2007 #6 Share Posted February 21, 2007 KBC, you are correct. I forgot about theverandahs. :) The Zaandam has plexiglass and the Ryndam is sold metal.
