margaritawoman Posted February 21, 2007 #1 Share Posted February 21, 2007 We are thinking of doing around trip from Los Angeles in 2008. What is the weather like crossing the Pacific? When would be the best (winter, spring or fall) time? If you have done the crossing is it warm enough for outside pool time?
bug_dan Posted February 21, 2007 #2 Share Posted February 21, 2007 We've done three crossings, Ensenada to/from Hawaii. Only on one of them was the weather suitable for swimming in the ships pools. The other two were rough sailing and cool temps. Sailing around the Islands, weather was perfect.
Ine Posted February 21, 2007 #3 Share Posted February 21, 2007 We sailed march 06 from/to LA. The first 2 seaydays out were cold to cool, blankets needed at the pool. After that the weather was great and nice at the pool. On the way back the last seaday again was rather cold for the pool. As there are many other activities you will enjoy those days too. suziehmkr Posted February 24, 2007 #4 Share Posted February 24, 2007 The weather (from all that we have read and our own personal experience) is really unpredictable. We did the RT from Los Angeles in Dec2005/Jan2006. We rode a storm out, so we had rough seas on our first night and especially our first full sea day. Started warming up the afternoon of our 2nd full sea day and we had great pool weather for the rest of the entire trip - all the way back to LA. Even though the weather was awesome (no rain, not even in Hilo) we were not able to tender into Kona due to high surf. So we missed that wonderful day. Beautiful weather and smooth seas on the way back (the report from the bridge on the tv called them "wavelets" :) We got back the first weekend in January and were shocked to come back to 80+ degree weather, when the entire time we were gone all of the news showed how California got pummeled with the storm that we rode out on. If you read the reports from the various cruises, you will see that it varies from sailing to sailing..... not much help, was I?

CruisinMK Posted February 24, 2007 #6 Share Posted February 24, 2007 The roughest month is January, early feb and late dec are also a rougher time. Weather has a mind of its own, so you can get big swells whenever. You're much more likely to encounter rougher seas on the open ocean to and from the west coast (or kiribati) than within the hawaiian islands.
