W.H.O. advice for Costa Maya

For those of you going to Costa Maya, the World Health Organization recommends that travellers use chloroquin (anti-malerial medication). This would be especially advisable for those going into the interior (ie. Mayan Ruins tour) where there will be a greater chance of running into a mosquito that carries the disease.

 

You should consult your MD or travel clinic at least a week prior to your departure as you need to begin taking the meds several days prior to your anticipated exposure.

 

Some people may rely on insect repellent alone. Remember, that just makes it harder for the insects to find you. If they do find you, it does not stop them from biting.
