We did this one about 3 years ago, the Victory is a very nice ship. Hlaifax is awesome, don't worry about booking excursion in Halifax as there are multiple venders a lot cheaper right beside the ship. To me St. Johns was a bit boring but a lot of people did the reversing falls and had fun (we could not wife was expecting). If flying in Newark is the best airport to come in to. Sail Away passing through Manhattan and by the Statue of Liberty is Great and definately a highlight. Very foggy when out at sea book a cabin low and towards the front or you may be hearing a foghorn all night. If you have any specifice question feel free to ask.

Hi,

We did this 7 day cruise last fall. Are you doing the 7 or the 5? Anyway, the only disappointment was there was not a lot of "fall color". Other than that, it was perfect. We enjoyed all our ports and did all our excursions on our own. Loved the colors on the Victory, lots of blues & greens. We didn't get a balcony because it was a "cold area" cruise but did enjoy our ocean view room. Be sure and get a lobster roll while in Portland and we found the Boston Duck tour very good. If you choose this cruise, enjoy!

What can you tell me about it? Thanks for any experiences, information, etc.

I have been to Canada four times. It is a nice trip and the Victory is a really nice ship. When in Halifax do go on the Titantic tour. It's really good. The trip to Peggy's Cove is really nice too. The Casino of Nova Scotia is walking distance from the ship and that is a good place to visit. I happen to like Casinos so I enjoy that. There is a nice ice cream place not far from the ship, I recommend you go there. It has cows out near it and it's near the glass blowing factory off of Water Street. There are plenty of souviener stores on Water Street and a few nice coffee shoppes.

In St. John if you go to the reversing water tour go in the morning. The water doesn't reverse too well in the afternoon. The Jewish Tour is really good as well.

Only go on tours sponsered by Carnival Cruise Line. Carnival Cruise Line isn't responsible for anything that happens on a tour that it doesn't sponsor. If something happens it's up to you to get to the next port-of-call if the ship leaves.

I agree with you on booking with the cruise lines in 99% of all cases but Halifax I would not as right on the main strip there are a bunch of venders for whales watching...... at about 1/2 the cruise prices plus they run all day so they obviusly have to be back by a certain time.

Hi! We did the five night to Canada this past August, and also in August 2005. Last year we sailed on the Victory, the year before was the Triumph.

I agree with the previous poster who noted how much they liked the color palatte of the Victory - really beautiful.

Also, while I have lived in New York for the last 20+ years, and have had occasion to find myself in New York harbor on many occasions on different boats, I have to say that the sailaway out of New York harbor is absolutely spectacular. I recommend the funnel deck for the most panoramic views.

There is a lot of information on various activities in the ports on the ports of call forum here. I do suggest that you plan something more than just walking around the port.

Both times we did our own thing (renting cars or just taking in the Maritime Museum in Halifax on our own.)

Whatever you decide, enjoy!

We are booked for our third Canada cruise on Victory this summer. We've never booked an excursion through Carnival in Halifax, just booked tours on our own. The first time we went to the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic (a must if you're a Titanic buff, but the exhibit on the Halifax Explosion of 1917 is fascinating) and walked around; it was Canada Day, so the waterfront was very busy. Last year we walked up to the Citadel, then down to Alexander Keith's brewery for a tour (they take you back to 1868, complete with a re-created pub and pub games), had lunch at one of the waterfront restaurants, then split up for two tours - the Harbour Hopper tour on an amphibious watercraft and the Theodore Tugboat tour for kids. They're both one-hour tours. (I was elected to take youngest son on Theodore - I already told DH I want the Harbour Hopper this summer!) Both can be booked through Carnival, but they were much less expensive on our own.

Victory is a beautiful ship, with its seven seas theme. You do need to watch the seahorses on the staircases - they're dangerous to the knees.
